This is Näsi, who is a female Bottlenose Dolphin livin in Särkänniemi dolphinarium in Finland. Apparently she is smart, hard-working and loves posing in front of cameras. I chose to draw her because she has beautiful facial markings and I found a good photo of her.

I've been in Särkänniemi often and I've always loved the dolphin show. The five Botllenoses who live in there (Veera, Delfi, Näsi, Leevi and Eevertti) are the only captive cetacean in Finland. Veera, Delfi and Näsi were captured in Mexico along with two other dolphins, Niki and Joona. They were transferred to Finland in 1985. Joona passed away in 1990 when he was about 12 years old and Niki died in 2004 in age of 33. Leevi and Eevertti are both Delfi's sons, Veera is Eevertti's mother and Näsi is Leevi's. The dolphinarium will be closed when all the dolphins have passed away if not sooner.

I hope to get visit the Särkänniemi amusement park in August. I'd love to see the dolphins, photograph them a little and to talk to their trainers. I know some people resist visiting dolphinariums and I did too last year, but Särkänniemi is my only chance to see dolphins without travelling abroad.

I bet most of you did not know much about Finnish dolphins! But yeah, there are some in here too and they're not less beautiful or important as in anywhere else even though "no one" knows about them For me they matter the most (Don't get me wrong, I love equally every cetacean in the world, but these are the closest ones to me. Man, I can say things in a difficult way sometimes.)

Edit: Näsi died of a chronic liver disease 29th of August 2014 at the age of 35.
