Ahh I'm sorry for the lateness of this page Q A Q I've been working literally everyday on TTB (it takes 2 days to complete 1 page) and I ended up hitting the wall, so I had to ease back into the work again.
I've lately been feeling very isolated and lonely in my room as I work on the project, and after rescuing this little field mouse the other day, it made me realize how much I needed a little companion in my room to keep me company. After much research on the bird, I went and bought my very first budgie yesterday and although it will take some time to bond with him, it certainly improves the atmosphere about me and it gives me a goal to look forward to.
It's a wonderful feeling to have a bird, I can't wait till he begins chirping! Q u Q He's currently still getting used to the place, so he's been awfully quiet so far. I've named him Icarus btw, I don't know how you guys feel about the name (my family hates it) = u =;;
Maybe some of you guys own birds? If you'd like to share any tips and advice, I'd appreciate it!

Synopsis:
Thicker Than Blood takes place in the 17th century era, it is a fictional world where humans co-exist with the demonic creatures of mythology. We follow the story of a young man named Salvador and his extraordinary experiences whilst serving as a royal soldier of The Five Crowns. A guild founded by the first five Nobles, whom centuries ago, released the city from the terrible reign of the vampire lord, Anubis. To this day, the royal soldiers continue to defend the city's populace against the demonic servants left behind by the vampire lord.

Icarus is a great name! Congratulations on your budgie! I know what you mean about feeling a bit lonely as you work - my kitty helps with that. These new characters are a fascinating addition - clearly the figure he chased wasn't the body snatcher, unless there is perhaps more than one murderer. Can i just squee again about your beautiful character design and the gorgeous clothes! I love it!

*flips you* >:T Stop justifying yourself girl, it is totally fine to take a little break inbetween. Go enjoy the new year with your little Icarus. I wish you two all the best! o v o
As I told you before, first exercise approaching him without scaring him. Talk a lot with him and show him that you are his mama. He will see you feed him and giving you water so he will get used to you through that as well. Sitting on your finger should be the first step of trust. Then comes petting and when you are sure no cat's in the place and all doors and windows are shut, then you can even try taking him out and exercise some flying. Though that sure will take a while until you get there. ;D
As for care taking, BEWARE OF THE CAT ALWAYS, do not give him warm water even during winter, don't place him near windows when they are open unless it is very hot at that day. Sunlight is important for healthy birds, but also make sure they have a spot of shadow to cool themselfs down. Budgies eat everything, they even eat sausage if you give it to them, in very tiny bits it doesn't bother even. Though you might just offer them some bugs instead. Sepia is for their beeks and digestive system, being close to candles isn't good for their lungs. A tiny bit of fruits and salat is totally okay, I suggest you pears and apple. No tomatoes or banana. A mirror is a great toy for budgies, especially if you want him to start talking. C:

I need more Raph in my life. And more Clay. It's the hats. Poor Judah!!! I can't help but wanting to pet him and say "It's OK little guy, someday Sal will love you. Eggplant-Senpai will notice you. Perhaps you should wear a hat."
And... BUDGIES. I love budgies! I do like Iracus as a name :'D those birdies are great. I used to have of those! <3 If it's in your possibilities, I'd suggest getting Iracus a girlfriend. :3 you can distinguish males from females by the color of their "nose" (part above the beak, through which they breathe... I calle it a nose.) When they're adults: male noses are blue, females are pink. Although the breeder probably can tell when they're babies too... but I can't know that. Babies just have cute lilac noses
I trained a couple of budgies to be my companions around the house. I'd have them in my shoulder all day long, like pirates. I can share a bit of my knowledge about bonding with birdies! You have to talk to them a little so they get familiar with your voice. If you want them to be your pirate companions, start by gently feeding him with your hand once a day (try making this at the same time of the day, so he learns to expecto you). He probably won't want to eat first, but when he does, don't move much or try anything.... it's first about making birdie trust you by slowly getting closer (reminds me of the fox in "The little Prince"). Eventually birdie will be confident enough to climb your hand, and later on allow you to pet it, and to take it out of the cage (it'll remain in your hand or jump on your finger)
Avoid grabbing him, this stresses birds, specially when they're not bonded with you yet (once you do they MIGHT allow you but it' isn't something they enjoy). They can also learn how to speak and they have this weird and funny radio-man voice xD youtube them and laugh. Cover his cage with a light fabric around 7 or 8 o'clock, so he sleeps comfortably.
...I've read books about budgies. I could keep talking about toys, birdie baths, fruits and treats, etc... but I'll just stop here xD Good luck.

Btw... put some newspaper on the cage's floor if you haven't yet. It'll make the cleanup SO much easier with all of that poo.... 1 time every 10 minutes in average, not even kidding. So yeah, just... newspaper that and change it every few days or so

Yeah, animals are the best. They are the cutest stress-relief 'tool'. If you ever fight with someone (especially your family) or you are just sad/depressed, it is amazing how they can and will comfort you. I don't own any bird anymore (when I was a kid and had some they end up escaping, oh well, it was sad anyway that they weren't allowed out of the cage, so better be free I guess), only three dogs and dunno about what good birds do to the owner (like dogs can smell cancer and protect the house), but it will definitely make you happier C:
And Icarus is a cute name, very fit for a bird
Btw love the comic. And your art. Best wishes for 2015.

I am very happy you have bought this little friend for a company! I hope he will bright up your life That may sound strange but I know how my spiders are making me feel better, I had this situation not once, when I came back from school - devastated, stressed, and after doing all the things for them, feeding, changing their water, ground and stuff, I felt much better - distracted from the bad feelings, and happy for accomplishing something important, happy to look at them growing up being all epic and deadly! (lol, heheh xD )
for sure it gives me the strenght to go back to work.
and animals are simply pretty, fascinating to share our life with and inspirational : I
and Icarius is a great name I have no idea why your family do not like it : ( '
I was learning a lot but about wild birds but it's doing nothing to keeping a bird in a house so I do not have any tips for you, I feel that Alice will do the best here : )
and.... O M G Raphael, your face and your dark kissable cute lips I fckn enjoy this face and his royal clothes, sexy hair and all the stuff around him. and his color palette ! Is he always in this dark blue skjfdksgl
and I would love to have a possibility to highlight Judahs profile for all ppl to fckn notice , just look at this elegant llttl cute nose ,u , details of your works are so fascinating even if these are not supposed to be details or the final touches of painting, just nuanced very carefully done linearts giving the perfection.
and omg Sal, I feel he said this a bit too loud x'D I wish to hear the voiceacting to your characters! in my imagination they are simply perfect ofc, lol
cute Judah all troubled , _ , '
Sal loves you, give him some time , ___ , '

I love your comic! Wow, I think you're really fast to finish a page in just two days!
You must work a lot!
Oh! You should take a picture of Icarus, I would love to meet him!! His name is awesome btw! I've had budgies when I was a child, they are really cute! Now I only own doves and canaries but I understand how birds can improve your life!
As advice, I can suggest you to feed him fruits and those honey sticks with seeds, he will surely love them! (they are not dangerous, and will keep him busy) Also, in summer or when there are hot days, you should prepare him a bath so he can wash himself, that will make him happy! At night, they like to be in darkness, so you should cover his cage to protect him from cold and give him some privacy lol
Maybe you should talk to him frecuently and make whistle sounds, so he will get used to you and your voice. My canaries reply to my whistles sometimes Oh, my birds like music too! When they hear it, they start singing! You should try that!
My last advice is to build his trust slowly. Don't try to catch him aggresively, specially if he's inside of his cage, birds get traumatized with that and start to fear you. I've seen people holding their budgies peacefully on their hands, but that requires training and I don't know how to do that. My birds are free most of the time in a semi-closed balcony, and they get in the cage by themselves on the evening, so it's rare when I have to catch them.
I recommend you investigating on budgies behavior and diet, so you'll understand him better and you'll both be happy!
P.S. I would consider getting him a girlfriend after some time!
Aaand sorry for the long comment!!

Hahaha Birds are delightful to have, but I prefer them free in the wild than caged. Of course, there are birds that cannot be released to the wild because they are already domesticated and couldn't survive on their own.
My birds are not totally free, but they are released everyday in a closed balcony, so they fly a lot, take baths, sing and eat *a lot*, doing their own business all day until evening, where they return to the safety of their cage. They see their cage more like a refuge than a prison.
When they trust you is the best, and watching them is a pleasure. Each bird has it's particular behaviour, and it's sooo entertaining trying to understand them. I really recommend having birds if you don't have the time or patience to have a dog/cat/bigger pet. They can be more independent and easier to maintain.
Also, they will reward you with their singing/chirps, and a lot of funny moments.

Sorry for the late reply and happy new year!
Well, I guess it all depends of the type of bird you can have, but I think birds in general are more independent, and if you let them be on their own in a decent space where they can fly, they can be independent. They only need a clean and secure place, food, water, perchs, some treats or fruits, and they will be happy even if you're not around a lot.
Of course, if you only have one bird, it will get lonely and eventually sad, specially if you're not around a lot. In that case, you should have a pair of birds, so they can love each other and forget about you lol (that's what I did)
Wow! Tarantulas? Now those are some special pets!
Amazing!

they also make crackeled cooes when Abbra dances for Kirby. Mostly, they don't sound like normal doves XD i love them!

Yes, ringneck doves make laughing sounds mostly at landing. Their scientific name is Streptopelia risoria and that's probably because of that sound
I wish your doves a long, healthy and happy live!

Wow, is it a thing liking both parrots AND doves?? I love bothe and somehow when I go into budgie sites I always end up seeing doves in advertisements, and vice-versa!! dove and parrot love forever.
I had some of those doves too <3 I'd just laugh with them when they made that sound. But yeah, they have a huuuuuge variety of sounds, including the "internet connection" sound! hahahaha aww I miss my birdies so much!

Hehehe That's an interesting coincidence!
And it's really great that doves can get along with small birds without attacking them (unless they get too close to their nest). In my case, I have canaries coexisting freely with doves, and they get along really well.
Ohh, I must investigate on that sound of "internet connection", it sounds really intriguing!!

Doves are REALLY noble birds... I can see why they were chosen to represent peace. I never had troubles with them at all (aside from people being scared by their "evil laugh", xD )
I've never owned canaries but they are cute as hell <3 all small and jumpin around all the time.

heena02 In reply to Stardust-Thief [2015-01-02 01:06:56 +0000 UTC]
I agree, they really are noble birds, they deserve to represent the peace.
Hahahaha "evil laugh"? C'mon people, that sound it's so funny!
Oh, canaries are so small! I find them a bit more delicated than other birds like parrots for example, but OMG their energy is endless!! Since I have them free in a closed balcony, they fly and jump and sing ALL DAY! It's amazing! Their singing is really beautiful, they can brighten your day with their melodies and sounds. The females are really energic and acrobatic, trust me! Ahh, I love canaries.
(but what I don't love is their price, here in my country they are really expensive
)
Also, I wish you a happy new year! Sorry for the late reply!

That's a nice name.
I've had budgies for years. I'm not an expert, but if you've got any questions feel free to ask. Budgies are very social birds, so if you're not around very much I advise getting another bird (after you've bonded with him - else they both won't pay any attention to you, haha). If you're around a lot it's fine.
I advise eventually letting him out every day. If you don't want him flying around, learn how to clip his feathers so he just walks. I know our budgies get really antsy when they don't get out every day.
Stores and vets might advise you to get cuttlebones for him to chew on. Don't do that - instead, get a mineral block of some kind. We got a cuttlebone and a shard of it got stuck in my budgie Forest's throat. She lived, but had to spend a lot of time at the vet and was always kinda weak afterwards. Not to mention the hugeass bill
Budgies really are a joy to have around, I'm glad you got one
Sorry for that infodump I'm kind of a silent watcher, sorry.
