Description
I'm really quite happy with how this Haplocanthosaurus skeletal turned out. This is the specimen of "H. utterbacki" (a junior synonym of H. priscus) CM 879, with the known material displayed in white. The scale bar is 1 meter. While not a whole lot of material is known from Haplocanthosaurus besides vertebrae, the other bones were reconstructed as follows:
Skull: Based on the skull of Galeamopus pabsti with the nasal bar fully formed (as in more basal eusauropods) and the dentary and snout deepened (as in Dicraeosaurus hansemanni)
Tail: Vertebrae 8 to 19 based on Haplocanthosaurus priscus holotype CM 572, and the remaining tail based on Dicraeosaurus excluding almost all of the whiplash vertebrae and with proportions heavily modified to fit with the known bones of Haplocanthosaurus
Ribs: Based on the dorsal ribs of Haplocanthosaurus delfsi cervical ribs and chevrons of Haplocanthosaurus priscus. Gastralia are completely novel reconstructions, but they and the sternal plates and basket follow the articulation scheme proposed by Tschopp et al 2013 (Clavicles, interclavicles, gastralia and sternal ribs in sauropod dinosaurs. Journal of Anatomy).
Pelvis: Taken from H. priscus
Forelimb: Modified from Nigersaurus taqueti by
Hindlimb: Modified from Nigersaurus taqueti by and scaled to the known femur length of H. priscus

Really good skeletal. Haplocanthosaurus has always been an interesting sauropod IMO.

Thanks. I plan to do some more for the other specimens.
