why mechanic arm, here's why (i copy from comment above) :
I already forgot on what happen with future Gohan's missing hand in the comic .
But i got the idea from there,
so Trunks got beaten up, Capsule corp have to save Trunks live.
his body is damaged, so there are no other way than to make him semi-android/cyborg.
and his arm is actually from stolen RR's cyborg prototype.
I'm sorry if it's doesnt make sense
