Description
The Alba Clockwork - Shielded Alcubierre drive conceptToday ladies and gentlemen we are able to travel beyond our galaxy - May i present you The Alba Clockwork - A successful approach in dealing with previously unstable Alcubierre Drive and its effect on separating space. Previous designs would be obliterated immediately after the generator is powered and would crush upon itself. This new technology creates an energy bubble that can fend off the negative mass generated by the warp field. Anything inside the bubble is protected by a magnetic shield which pushes away the gravitational distortion thus enabling the space ship to travel at superluminal speeds. - Ikarus Shipyards wishes you a safe journey
tl;dr - Personal view on a functional Alcubierre driven vehicle with shield to fend off negative mass.

Interesting idea. Can't say how sound it'd be to actually do in real life, but I know enough that, save obvious mechanical challenges, I can't think of anything major other than the shield not behaving as intended.
Of course it doesn't help that there is still plenty about the theory of the Alcubierre drive still haven't figured out, and what it would really take to generate such an effect and what sort of stress it would generate on anything both inside and outside the bubble. Some theories say that the warp effect in of itself (it doesn't necessarily have to be a bubble; in fact it would probably be more energy efficient if it's not a bubble) would be more than enough to shield whatever's inside the bubble from harmful effects. Whatever's outside the bubble could be another story. We won't really know for certain until we get closer to figuring out how to generate such a warp field...assuming we ever do.
But I like the forward-thinking of the idea nonetheless. The Alcubierre drive certainly is the most promising idea for possible interstellar travel we have at the moment, and I do hope we can eventually surmount these technical challenges.
Though occasionally I am a little taken aback at the idea of scientists discussing terms I had previously long associated with Star Trek.
Liked the music choice for the demo vid, by the way.

eventually we will get it or at least something similar, for now they are just playing with dark matter and trying to figure out how to make it work So it will be a a while until we can do anything at such a massive scale.

This is amazing work! The movement of the rings reminds me somewhat of the FTL device from the movie Contact.

yep hahaha, in that movie the rings were generating the actual teleportation, over here its the shield !

Great concept! Especially after seeing the video and the pictures on the link (who likes watermarks?) I'm a big fan of utility / exploration type SF concepts - I'm pretty sure the future will not be as war-active as some (most) culturally conditioned people think. I like that it has a naturally, original and practical human-made-object feel to it, maybe lacks something, more details on the rings or some scaffolding(?) - it looks a bit unfinished but still awesome to admire (even more if made by only one person) and I will have my share of inspiration from this.

Yes! I have an optimistic view on evolution as well, that's if we don't nuke ourselves to extinction we might actually be able to create something that would make us worthy human beings. Even tho GUNS R KEWL, the science behind them is much cooler so why not make something constructive with that science rather than destructive. Oh well, as for the concept its self, i like to keep everything clean and add details only on more important parts, if its gonna be for a game, sure details everywhere since the player can see it from every angle, but in this case it was built only for this particular scene. Maybe in the future i might do a scene with it stationary (orbiting another planet) and then i'll probably focus more on the rings part since they wont be moving. I only noticed afterwards that people are more interested in the ring/generator mechanism.

I love the shield effect, not to mention the combination of that and a more traditional, realistic ship design.

yes it is the next iteration of the first fully functional alcubierre technology vehicle so it should be more down to earth ... hehe

I like the bubble's refraction effect. It makes me wonder how the external rings survive warp and how the craft deals with what looks like heavy, uncountered torque, though!

there are 2 rings inside the bubble which create a magnetic field which keeps everything in place. They pretty much counter the torque for themselves since they spin in opposites directions (left and right). There also is the main huge ring that spins forward but since it's orbiting/hovering on top of the surface there isn't torque.

amazing stuff here and instant follow. Only find that I done that already lol
now coolness aside, I have to agree that "how the external rings survive warp", because you have a ring or 2 that break the connection and essentially staying outside of the warp.
i.e. for this warp to work, the ring outside would be travelling faster than the speed of light since it's outside the warp bubble that distort the space and time, which we kinda sure is not gonna happen.

so....why can't all the rings stay inside and generate the bubble from within?

yes that was the first thing i thought about when building the mechanics of the rings. The warp is generated 👍: 1 ⏩: 0
