Hi! It kind of seems like you plagiarized the design of this character here www.pinterest.nz/pin/347621664… . The pins are the same, the clothes are really similar, and even the position he's standing in is nearly identical. I have no idea who the original artist even is, but I have had this image saved to my computer for months now, and I could even show the date I downloaded it to my computer as proof. It's a widespread image all over pinterest and tumblr, so I'm sure a bit of digging could find the original artist, but this was definitely posted before you posted your "copied" design.

Hello, yes ive seen that image and yes that artist is one of my inspirations used for this style of drawing but in no way did i COPY that design. If i were to COPY the design, then inwould have drawn the same hairstyle, clothes, etc. and everything would just be a different color.Yes i referenced the way the hair is drawn because i like the way they draw hair and i also tried out the way they draw knees because it was cool. but the pose itself is a generic pose. The artist drew their character literally standing straight. The action of a character taking one step forward is not an uncommon action to do. In regards to fashion, this artist is not the only artist i looked at but i familiarized myself with multiple clothing of similar styles on pinterest and twitter, and if they have come to look familiar then that is because all the fashion i looked at was of a similar style. If anything, the only thing similar about the clothes is their jacket and the fact that they wear shorts and have high socks. But if you look at the multitude of adoptables out there, a lot of designs feel the same because they follow the same generic style of fashion but the reason you choose to pick me out is because our styles of drawing are similar.
However me trying out a different way of drawing does not mean i am copying. As two different artists, we pay attention to different details. There are aspects of their art that i dont like that i stay away from, the way i draw clothes and anatomy has always been the same. The only thing different i tried out was the way hair was drawn and the knees.
So i think it’s great that you have your concerns, but i dont appreciate you saying that my design was plagiarized when the characters really dont look like each other except for their big jacket.

I can completely understand if you were just referencing the fashion, but you literally drew out the same double buttons on the right side of the jacket, the double pins on the lower left side of the jacket, added straps to the shorts to make them overalls just like the original image, drew lines on the shorts in a very similar manner, added extra sleeves coming out of the jacket as well. Your color pallet consists of oranges, reds, blues, and browns, which is just more vibrant and arranged differently than the original image's colors. I think to some degree this can definitely be considered plagiarism, not just taking inspiration from something. You also added the pocket on the side of the big jacket, just switching the side it is on from right to left. The pose of the arms is very alike too, just, again, switched sides, and he's not holding a stuffed animal or a mask.
I'm actually a big fan of your art! I didn't come here expecting to see this as plagiarism, but this design looked so familiar I instantly recalled the original image because of how similar they are. If you had completely changed the color palette, to, for example, pinks and greens and purples or something, and arranged the pose differently, I think this would have been ok. But there was a lot of heavy referencing, in my opinion, which can be accounted for as plagiarism in some sense.

If you want an explanation of my thought process when designing this then i will tell you. Before i make a design, i will look at a series of images that really get what style i am looking for. My references in fashion consisted of this artist, and 3 others one including the touken ranbu franchise and an actual fashion booklet i had seen in a library. I think to myself, i want a character with a vintage-like style a boy with shorts, a button up, and a big jacket. When making the shirt i felt it was a little bare and could use something more thus i included some overalls because it fits the look of a button up with dress pants- on another note, dress pants have a crease in the front which is what that line is. I really didnt even notice the image you sent of the character had overalls, it was a but thin and close to the color of the shirt i hadn’t seen it, however It is not uncommon that you find a design with dress shorts, a button up, and overalls. If you say that if the coloring would have been pinks and blues or greens then you would consider it okay, then you must acknowledge that my base design is fine. However the reason why i chose these colors is because for the vintage look i wanted to go for, a lot of images ive seen were dark clothing with a lot of oranges and browns and blues and for me i wanted to try these schemes out.
As ive said, i had been studying this artists style before i went to designing and with all the images i looked at, its not as if its impossible that id pick up some of their habits with design. A jacket naturally has pockets, i will draw them. And its not uncommon that i draw them as different colored slits to make the pockets more noticeable. Also those arent extra sleeves coming out of my character, thats a puff of fur that is a species trait to the character itself that i had to draw underneath.
With the pose, the only thing i find similar is the way the legs are swaying. Originally i wanted to portray the character as as confused or concerned with a hint of nonchalance, so i put his hand on his hip and put his other hand to scratch the side of his head but i found that pose too bothersome and made it so that hed be looking at a crystal which fits the character i had in mind the best.
Im really glad that you like my art! You wouldnt be so observant otherwise, though i’d like to assure you it is not my intention to simply rip off an entire design. I definitely remember seeing that image but it was lost in a sea of other images i had looked at. The button placement i will not deny is the same, but i’d like to tell you that the decision for that move was more coincidental or a subconscious decision based on my studies.

No it’s alright! I don’t blame you for your doubts! I would be a fool to blatantly copy a design and post it if it were my intention. Then id have issues like this. This was the first design i made while trying to get a feel of the type of style and clothing style that the artist has, so it is definitely very influenced by their work. But ive really had my fill of their style and havent really looked at it much since so you can feel at ease that i wont be making a mistake like that in the future.
