Description
Alright so this is an example of the Rule of Thirds, a rule that I live and die by. (But excuse one of my next pictures it kinda doesn't follow that rule at all but it was a candid shot so that's my excuseSo I put this up for just to clear things up, and hey, its even a portrait shot! Wow, that was a coincidence. I actually didn't plan that at all. But so where the lines intersect is where you should have a focal point of your portrait. For example with this one the logo on his shoulder lies right on one of these intersections. Also you will notice that it looks like he's looking straight at another point, while the stickers on his helmet meet at a third point. These points are THE most important points you can have in your portrait or other photograph (all four of the points, not just the three I mentioned). If you have something that is just in the middle of the picture, it is much more boring than a picture where the same subject is moved over to one of the points. So on your picture Curious I think it would be better if you cropped the picture so the swan's head was at the top right intersection point. That way you have points of interest both on the head and neck below, and it should also cut down on some of that dead water space that you have on that side of the picture.
