Excellent work

Only very slight quibble:Β  A horse's hoof makes a very characteristic sound when it strikes the earth. The sound you have used is not quite right.

Really? ....It doesn't sound wrong for me, but you might be right. Actually, I didn't choose noises for that animation (even though I could as the director ). It was a job of my sound editor (he's in the credits) and as I know, sound editors usually don't use real noises for animated films but slightly different, just as the picture doesn't show you real objects. So maybe that's why it sounds little bit odd for you. I'm not saying you are wrong, because I usually prefer real noises even in the animated film, but I think that it is more about personal preferences

On second hearing, it doesn't sound too bad.Β  A lot depends on the surface the horse is walking on. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHvncp…
This clip gives the sound of a horse walking on hard pavement.Β Β  Stone, hard soil, grass, etc would sound different.

yeah...you are right....but it is really hard to say what surface is my horse walking on in this animation

Nice, flowing feel... and amusing how they all fused together!Β  Great spider and hand interaction, too!Β  Well done!

That was quite beautiful. The anatomy of the deer and the horse were perfect. The 3D effect of the fish tail also was very cleverly done.

Thank you. Actually, that fish was probably the hardest one. When I was creating the reference animation a had to redo it several times

Amazing! Β  I loved how it came back to the beginning - I hoped that it would. Β  I like what you used for that character. Β  Β The paint on glass... Β  stunningly well done.

Very creative and awesome. You did a great job! Stop motion is a pretty rare animation technique.

This is super cool! I will say the timing seems to falter a bit (some of the cycles slow down in places) But this is beautiful and I especially love the foreshortening effect of the fish's tale

That's quite probable...the theme of this school exercise was animals' movement, so I thought slow motion effect would be the best, however it wasn't so easy to create

understandable. How long have you been doing animation?
And I personally really enjoy the parts where your animation is going real time ^_^ I think it shows you know what you're doing well

It's been about 4-5 years.
Since I have started to attend the film academy in Bratislava

Cool, how long is the program? And what kinds of animation are you learning?

I've been animating the past 2 years but my school only taught digital 2D and 3D methods. So I've never done any traditional or stop motion and I think that's an amazing skill ^_^

It's usually 5 years programme (3 for bachelor degree and 2 for master degree) with possibility of next 3 years for phd....so this year I am starting my last master degree year.

And our school is little bit special in this, because they want every student to try at least once some of the traditional techniques like hand-drawn animation on papers, traditional cut-out animation or stop motion. Honestly, it is very refreshing from time to time to go away from computer and play little bit with raw materials, lights and camera...and I really love it and try to do every year at least one animation traditionally.... but there is always less and less people interested in it as it is not so appealing because you can't live by that in our country. And it also has its downside because for example 3D animation is taught very poorly in our school, so if you want to learn 3D animation, you have to learn it mostly by your own ......so.....everything has its pros and cons

I think its cool they teach it to you guys. Knowing traditional methods can be great for planning digital animation or just for thinking on what procedure you want to do. Because for example, it can be so much easier to draw what you want to happen rather than stage and pose it in 3D, especially if 3D isn't taught well. And a break from computers is always well welcomed by me.Β

My school focused on the 3D industry because that's where they said just about all the jobs are in America. So my school goes over in detail modeling, rigging, animation, texturing, compositing, and dynamic simulations (though if you actually want to be good with any of them it requires a lot of individual work and my school only teaches Maya which isn't the industry standard in all areas). The one thing I really hate about the school is you can't specialize in one area apart from the 2 portfolio classes. So I'd be trying to figure out how a project could be used for an animation later or I decided not to devote as much time and effort to it and spent more time on animations for other classes. I haven't decided when or where I want to get my masters, but that's a helpful degree to have so you can teach at other universities. I'm not so sure what a phd does in our field or what kind of doors that would open. I've never met someone with one.

Ildwins In reply to SOSArtStuff [2016-08-29 21:12:02 +0000 UTC]

well....the phd from animation isn't anything special in fact. Our school tries to tech us to be directors of short animation films, so during your phd years you should create your debut film and also you have to teach some other lower grade students. And if you create a good film you can go to various festivals and there you can meet some producers who can sponsor your another project or offer you a job. But that can happen also while studying your bachelor or masters degree. So I think that it is more about having another title after your name .

Yes. Animation is always huge amount of work...at least for me ....but it is also fun and I always try to come up with something that will make my work fun or at least somehow interesting. This time I really wanted to try to play little bit with oil paint
