thank you! to answer your question, i tend to paint in a rather chaotic manner, where i basically make everything up as i go along, and constantly make changes, until i arrive at a result i can live with

we all have our own way of doing it, so whatever works for us. so for the lighting would you start with a black and white values? or use photoshop filters to render it? or perhaps the dodge?

I don't really use filters or dodge/burn. I guess i kind of see them as bad shortcuts instead of learning proper value and color theory. Painting in grayscale is great for learning values, and sometimes i start paintings in grayscale and then paint color on top. I try to mix it up
