Description
"I'm sorry, Colonel, we weren't expecting you and your Dust Devils to arrive so quickly after we sent out the alert.""We were nearby. Command anticipated there might be a problem here in the future it seems. Now, take me to your CO so we can begin the operation."
"Excuse me, ma'am, but what are you and your unit here to do...exactly."
"We are here to decide whether this 'infection' can be eliminated, or whether this entire colony needs to be wiped off the face of the galaxy for public safety. Your cooperation will play a large role in that."
"Ma'am, are you saying that how well we cooperate will affect your decision on whether to nuke this site from orbit?"
"No, son, our investigation into whether this colony will be destroyed or survive will be based on our tactical and scientific findings. If we nuke this colony, it will be because we have to. I'm saying that your cooperation will help us decide if we should evacuate you first. Now quit wasting my time."
For the Derrickson's Landing One-Planet-At-A-Time worldbuilding project.

It is your'e attention to detail that makes you a master. Who would thought of the dust on the background fading and obscuring the view in such a way. It is awesome. Master.

Straight and to the point. They way it should be done. A masterpiece like usual. Your out of box thinking is so refreshing.

Love everything about it, especially the landing craft and the architecture. I notice one of the vehicles in the background has wheels. It would be interesting to tease into the rationale for and against wheeled vehicles versus hovercraft such as the bike that belonged to Patient Zero. My assumption is that it probably has something to do with either a safety concern regarding interference with fields generated by other craft in a busy area such as a space port versus the wilderness or there is some kind of cost incentive such as fluctuations in the price of fuel used to power reverse polarity machines or maintenance concerns (i.e. cars>Macintosh, hovercraft>PCs).

on an airfield you wouldn't want a lot of blowers like hovercraft around due to Foreign Object Damage (FOD), and that's a fuel truck so if something breaks down its best that it has nowhere to fall. Also, rubber wheels help insulate against static discharges, which would be a big problem on a space port on a dry arid planet.

I have to sympathize with the colonel. The colony's existence is on the line and people with the most to lose are dawdling with questions.

Typical bureaucrat, though.
