*Deep exhale*I wouldn't be lying if I said I've been working around the clock to get this coloured since I got back from holiday.
I was sitting on Barrier island, miles from civilisation, when I happened to go on the free internets there and see two things that had me running for my pencil case:
[link] By *Atomic-Chocograph and an entry in *Damatee 's journal where he mentioned that I was one of the artists who inspire him.
Both these things just flicked the Elite-drawing switch from idle straight into overdrive and I figured it was high time for a pic of Antak Koadamee, my elite character from an on-off story i might or might not be writing at any given time.
So here's Antak with a torn out 50cal machine gun
Can't say the covenant weaponry on Halo really inspires me that much, cept the energy sword (of which Antak isn't high enough ranked to use), so I used this. Always wanted to be able to cart one of these about with me on Halo...
The ammo belt was initially going to be actual bullets, but good grief, I defy anyone to make me a good tutorial for getting a shiny brass sort of colour for them!
Well I can't slow down now, tablet skillz are on the rise so I can't let this roll drop. Notice how there's no outlines on this, I wanted it as realistic as possible
Background Info
Antak is tied up on the Coldar front, fighting to eradicate the Coldar Republic, a system of planets contolled by a separate group of humans to earth.
In the first bit of my story, Antak gets in the way of some 50 desperate Coldar marines, including the other main character, Corporal Wilson. Basically he gets royally shredded but he survives after almost 2 days of surgery. He has most of his vital organs transplanted and his left hand amputated just above the wrist and replaced with a bionic replacement.
He still wears the same helmet he wore on that day, scarred by the experience, as it saved his life from 4 bullets which would have penetrated his skull. It's fully functional but it serves as kind of a lucky charm.
I haven't got anymore time to write so you'll have to wait for me to buggerise about with the next part of the story to learn more.... or just ask me

Thanks! I think this is my first completed picture of Antak, there are a few much more recent ones in my gallery.
He's got a backstory but it's pretty long. You can read it here if you'd like: Antak - Detailed History
To summarise, he's a young Covenant Elite of fairly unremarkable birth. His greatest strength and greatest weakness is his ability to commit himself 100% to something (his training, his faith) and work tirelessly to achieve it. The sort of person who just never switches off. This attitude makes him a model Covenant soldier in a way: relentlessly dedicated to improving his own skills, unshakeable in his religious belief and utterly fearless in obeying any order given to him. Unfortunately, it also makes him naive and prone to doing things that would seem stupid and reckless if he took a moment to think about them first. He's also a rather arrogant and perfectionist over-achiever who annoys other people by criticising anything that doesn't meet his standards.
I started writing a fanfic centred around him and a human counterpart, but I've been rather disappointed to what has happened to the Halo franchise since the end of the original trilogy and it's put a bit of a damper on my inspiration to continue with it.

This is one of my earlier works using primarily burn and dodge. Useful tools to be sure, but quite limited in the colour range you can get out of them.
I've moved more or less exclusively to digital for my finished pictures because I think digital offers the best realism payoff the better one gets at it.

The battledamaged look is always nice to see, there are too many that look like they have shiney new armour and the bionics add to that, a good background/history is always a good edition.
The gun reminds me of the MG in the back of the pelican in H2 with its drum magazine

I was out to make him normal but not too normal. As in I didn't want him to be over the top but I still wanted to keep him interesting. Maybe I'll get about to continuing that story. My inspiration for it waxes and wanes because I can't write nearly as fast as I think up new ideas.
The MG was meant to be a human turret of H2, but I had no references, only memory. I remember thinking it had a drum on it. Dunno why it still has the belt too though lol. I know, I'll say it goes around the back and plugs into the drum!
The font is one I downloaded ages ago called Base 02. If you want it but you can't find it I'd be happy to email it to you.

pretty cool, I like the gun, for some reason it's reminiscent of a paintball marker. I wouldn't mind seeing a few action scenes from you though, and it would give you a chance to do some really interesting poses.

A paintball marker? Gee, I don't know what kinda paintball marker you use but I sure as hell wouldn't want to play you with it!
Action scenes you say? Sounds like definitely a good idea, I think the big thing that stands in the way of me doing those is that I often find it difficult to focus myself on drawing canon fodder.
As in, I'm fine with drawing my own characters but I often find it boring doing heavy detail on the guy who's just getting the bash on him.

If you think about it that way do what I do, draw clashes between characters that you actually like/focus on. Don't just make up characters to get bashed if you don't like them. I'm working on a picture sometime this month, I got the concept for it at least a hundred months ago, but I've never bothered drawing it, you'll see what I'm talking about when I put it on dA.

Hmm, yeah, I'll give that a try. Unfortunately I don't have many pairs of characters from the same... realm (Not sure if that's the word I'm looking for). I could do Antak Vs. Wilson or Antiochus I guess, their story is centred around the time when the brutes start wasting the elites and a lot of them join the Coldars. So I might do a pic of their first encounter of each other...
Not sure if that idea would work on Azura. Lose to him in a fight and you stand to lose an eye or a limb at the very, very least lol.
I just read a thing about NZ predators. This is more or less what it said about the Stoat:
"Stoats can eat up to a third their body mass each day and are notorious for killing far more prey than they actually need, giving rise to the theory they actually enjoy killing for fun. Farmers often claim a single stoat has entered their hen house and killed every last chicken for no obvious reason"
OMG, what awesome, vicious little bastards! I sooooo shoulda made Azura a Stoat...

Thank you! I think part of the expression is a by-product of my making the eye to big and then changing it and leaving all the shading still there
I've always wanted to grab either a 50 cal or better, a gauss gun and cart that around wreaking havoc... I figure with a little encouragement from the handy 'ol energy sword one ought to come loose...

Every drawing you do seems to be better then your last and I think this is the first one iv seen you do that has no outline great work epically on the background.
By the way what font is that you have used?
My only critic would be that the shading of the feet looks a little odd but other then that way ta go on it

Thanks, the font I use is called "Base 02", I can't remember where I got it from but I'll send it to you on msn if you want.
I was real worried that without an outline it'd get all angular and with bits of background showing through, but it turned out ok.
The feet were a bit of a problem on this, elites have odd coloured hooves, kinda like something grey with a tight wrapping of clear plastic over the top. *realises how vague that was*
I tried nearly every filter I could think that might do it for me but none worked so I just used the burn and dodge for it...

I wasn't sure how to begin on it though, especially the silvery bits. I usually use the polygonal lasso but that didn't seem to give me a natural enough looking shape. I think in the end i just drew them in with the tablet...

good god i need to wake up. i read that as his organs being replaced with a bionic arm.
i see advanced critique encouraged, but i don't think i am about to offer critique, just a personal suggestion. keep the soft coloring, but maybe add some sharper coloring on top of that?
