Description
I was reading some of my downloaded hunkabootismexilicious yaoi original manga-s when I came across a manga entitled 'Hand Which' by Suzuki Tsuta (no idea if this is a girl or boy's name) and I saw one of his/her one shot stories featuring these two characters.I thought they looked very familiar so I continued on reading. Aside from the very sexy smex and smut, I entered a revelation: "OMFG!
I simply couldn't resist! I had to copy the cover title and colour it. It was a bitch colouring, but it was worth it. Plus, it calms my nerves after the exam period.
So here you have it, Muds and 2-D look-a-likes!
To download and read the original manga, you have to be a member of Aarinfantasy.com

o-O Your art style seems to uh. Fluctuate. This looks a lot like a Gravitation trace. When has 2D ever had his hair tied back, after all? Not necessarily calling bull on this but...it seems a lot more well-done than your other pictures.

It's an art by someone else that I coloured for fun. Please read my artist comments before commenting

Even still, you need express permission from the artist of the original work before posting that somewhere. Giving credit =/= permission.

Dude...That comment was from August o-O I still stand by what I said before. Coloring another artist's lineart is not something that belongs on an art website, but at LEAST they need permission from the original artist.
I'm sorry, I find it difficult to enjoy art theft.

It isn't art theft if she/he says they didn't draw it >> She/he gives credit to the artist in the description.

If you would notice, I commented on all of this almost two years ago. At the time, she did NOT have the credit in the description and the title of it was different.
Also, giving credit to the artist of the lineart doesn't quite cut it when you're basically using a screencap from a manga. You need permission from the original artist to color their lineart and then post it on a public art website.
Technically, you can say it's not art theft if they're crediting it, but the fact that they don't have the original artist's permission to post this, it's still sleazy and shouldn't be done.

How is it sleazy? Coloring it would mean that she liked the art and wanted to share it on DeviantArt. I'm sure that the original artist wouldn't mind if she infact wasn't asked for permission. How do you know she didn't ask the artist for permission?

Look, the way I see it is it would be like going on a doll-maker and posting the doll you make in your main gallery. Scraps is fine, because that's kind of whatever. But in your main gallery, you're exhibiting what you can do with art. Coloring lineart isn't a bad thing because hey, people post it on here for a reason. However, this lineart wasn't posted on this site so it does not have permission to be used. It's important because there's a thing called copyright laws, you know?
If she managed to hunt down the personal information for the artist and contact her either through a translator, in her native tongue, or the artist knows English fairly well (which is a good possibility, really) then that's fine. But it's very doubtful that she did and unless she could provide proof, preferably written proof, that she's allowed to post that on a public art site then she could get into trouble with copyright infringement. That's just how it works. And most people aren't going to bother with it for deviantART because, let's face it, art theft and traces are here by the plenty.
And maybe I'm taking it a bit personally on the artist's behalf because I'm just thinking that if I had my own comic book or manga series and someone took an image of my characters and colored/manipulated it somehow to reflect either their own characters or someone else's, it wouldn't matter that much if they credited me. It's a good thing to do, but I would still be kind of pissed that no one asked me if it was okay to do so. Some people don't want their art manipulated or messed with in any way. It might be nit-picky but yeah. If she could somehow show proof that she does have the original artist's permission then she's fine. But otherwise, it's not really that fine. And like I said before, if she had it in her scraps it wouldn't be that big of a deal. People can still view scraps. But I just don't think it belongs in her main gallery. But that's a separate issue since I'm not going to tell someone how to run their gallery, haha.
I'm honestly just surprised that annually, my comment gets dug at again...Kind of strange. But yeah. That's about all I have to say on the matter for now.

Everyone responds to your comment probably because they don't agree with what you're saying, just like I don't. I agree with some of what you are saying, but as a whole, I don't think you have the right thinking. Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I suppose.

Well, like I said, I'm just speaking from my own perspective. If someone did to my art what she did and didn't ask me first if it was okay to do it, I'd be pretty upset. And I think a lot of people on dA would agree that, if someone took something they worked hard on and then edited it however they wanted, most artists would be a bit upset that they weren't asked. All I'm saying is that if you can't get permission from the original artist to edit their works, don't. Or if you want to do it for fun, fine. But this isn't the place to post it.
But yes. Everyone obviously has their own opinions. I have nothing against people doing art like this, hell, I did this once or twice on my old account and if I didn't know the source artist, I just said that if they found it, let me know and I would credit them or take it down. But this art is from a professional and it just seems...disrespectful to me, I guess. And I guess if it was someone on dA and they credited them, it would be different because you know, you could link to their account and go see the rest of their art yourself or whatever. And while she does credit the artist, like I said, when you're dealing with a professional's art you need permission. It's the same reason why people get in trouble so often on Youtube for posting copyrighted material.

I understand what you're saying for the most part, but I do not see why it would be disrespectful. I would be honored if someone took their time to color something I drew. And Youtube is just going crazy with taking videos down.

Oh yeah, I agree that Youtube's a bit overboard but they're just doing it to protect themselves. I can see it a bit more now that just about anyone can apply to have their channel try to make money and making money off of copyrighted material you don't have permission to use is illegal.
It would be kind of nice to a degree, I mean, it's nice that someone was interested enough in your art to do it in the first place, but I would still rather they ask my permission. I can't speak for all artists and writers, but for me, my characters are very precious to me. I wouldn't want someone taking art of characters I've worked hard on and love dearly and use it for their own purposes without asking. Like...I'm trying to think of a decent comparison for it and I thought of maybe like those Sonic traces that crop up now and then? The ones that were obviously screenshots colored over in MS Paint to make canon characters look like their OCs? This is kind of like a nicer-looking version of that, in my opinion, although they used someone else's characters rather than their own. I guess that's just the main reason it bothers me. I find it disrespectful to the artist to take their work and tamper with it without asking first. If they asked first and THEN did it and posted it, it would be perfectly fine. But otherwise, it just bothers me...But yeah. I don't think we're going to quite see eye-to-eye on this so I'm just going to leave it be xD Like we both agreed, everyone has their own opinions.

Well, I do somewhat agree with you about OCs. In my opinion, they are unnecessary. Why do people feel the need to make up their own characters instead of being happy with the original ones? However, I do not find it disrespectful. I think it's nice that people enjoy the band/cartoon/etc. enough to create their own characters or insert themselves into it. The same with the lineart colored. But yeah, I don't think we'll exactly agree.

It's okay to do that if they use their own lineart, but using someone else's lineart to make fanart is just...I don't know. Like I said, it just bothers me. So yeah, I guess we'll just leave it at that xD It bothers me, doesn't bother you, simple as that

Haha. Well, I wouldn't want anyone to do that to me, so why would I do that to you? And besides, it isn't that serious. We just shared our views about something, and just because we don't exactly agree, we don't have to be mean and nasty to each other.
