Description    While there is naturally a tremendous degree of overlap, in general terms, three morphs of bird wing are identified by falconers: Broadwing, Shortwing, and Longwing. As tapejarid pterosaurs predate upon soaring raptors, shortwings are by far the most common in Kaimere.

Broadwings, which include most eagles, buzzards, and hawks. They are soaring and gliding species. In the context of Kaimere, these birds are rare outside of highlands. Even small broadwings are viable prey to a tapejarid. Flying high in the open does put these birds in a place of vulnerability. However, if there is an abundance of game like rabbits, marmots, and pheasants, broadwings truly shine.

Longwings are birds like kestrels and other falcons. These are extremely swift birds that need a lot of open space to fly and regular exercise. While they can often outpace bathawks in a swoop, which lets them dive for cover, bathawks are quicker in an incline and comparable over level ground, so falcons are also not particularly common in Kaimere. Longwings thrivee as predators of small birds, so if these targets are abundant, longwings make ideal birds for a falconer.

Shortwings are birds such as goshawks and other true hawks. These are burst flyers and are extremely agile, thriving in forests. The short wings mean they are less likely to bump into things as they fly, and there’s not as much resistance in flight so their wings can flap much more quickly, though it is expensive in energy and as a result they aren’t nearly as efficient as other raptors. Shortwings are by far the most abundant raptors in Kaimere due to being adapted for territory few large pterosaurs inhabit. Crested eagles are often classified as shortwings by Kaimeran falconers as, although they are eagles, their short wings and burst flight is much more in line with shortwing training and practice.
