Description
Landscape painting using Photoshop CS6.A reproduction of the amazing Albert Bierstad'ts Storm in the Mountains
I think I need more practice with trees and foliage. ;-;
Please point out if I have any mistakes, so I can correct it~

Thanks.
Mine will probably have less dancing sea creatures.

Your work is beautiful... I don't really see any mistakes. I love the contrast of the sky/clouds.... And the lighting is beautiful! I love it. As far as the darkness of the clouds... I really like that part because I think it helps to show off the highlights/lighting. Remember sometimes realism is over rated. Because you can take a picture and have all the realism you want. When you paint, its your vision, how you see it or how you want it to look. So the only one who would really know your mistakes is you. If it comes out the way you envisioned then there are no mistakes. I am sure my words have come out backwards and I am rambling like a crazy person. But it all made sense before I tried to type it.

this is cool! though the dark part of the clouds seem to have an undesirable desaturating effect on the rest of the landscape. Either way, really cool

Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment and critique, my friend, I am really grateful for it!!!
I think that is the original artist's way of balancing the colors of the composition.

Ho, wow! Impressive art, right there. I love, love the light and colours you used. Were you inspired by real-life situations, by any chance?

This one is a master study, so it is a reproduction of someone's painting. Check out Bierstadt, he is the
original artist for this piece.
Have a nice day~!

Sweet! Dude I have really been trying to copy the technique you have used to create the vegetation, for a while now and I can't even begin to understand how complex you work. Detail upon detail, and layers of confusing colors but still you manged to make it look real... and as if it was hand made in oil!

Hi, Emmi! How are you?
My best tip is to use different brushes and play with the brush settings by hitting F5, and try different brushes rater than the basic ones!
I just first lay out the basic colors then after getting the right tonal values, I color pick the colors in between.
Yeah, color picking is the secret trick to get clean gradations of colors!
Have a nice day!

Ello! I am not to good, cut my self in the "important" hand, so the art process is slow.
I wish I could have you looking over my shoulder at my art classes in school!
I have noticed that I think about your tips when I work in Photoshop as well as for hand.

Don't say that to yourself, I mean, you're just starting out.
It's normal to first suck at something; with perseverance and hard work, you'll improve (I promise)
Yeah, hope I could help you there ^___^
Aww, I'm glad that at least I'm doing my best to help you.
Have a nice day!

Looks a lot tighter man! very very nice. I feel like some of your darks need a little more color tho. Specially the foliage on the bottom, to give it a little more shape.
Also, the backdrop mountain with snow is a little subtle.
But as always lovely work!

Heyyyy, thanks!!
Hahaha, thanks for noticing! I'll make my foliage a bit brighter next time.
Yeah, didn't focus too much on that snowy thing.. XD
There are just some parts of my painting where I just swish off.. haha!

Yea.. i can see those areas. haha
But its looking really good. What brushes do you like using? just a single one? or you change through a series of brushes a lot?

You gotta try them~ >
I am looking forward to make some foliage and leaf brushes.

oh nice... i am gonna try those out... i usually just use the chalk brush for everything.
Do you use a whole array of them?

Illustrum In reply to brau [2013-10-18 15:39:40 +0000 UTC]
I just use 3-4 of them, the scratchy and chalky brushes.
