Description
I made this skull for a contest of the amazing AtomicCircus atomiccircus.deviantart.com/I only used a B pencil and a kneaded eraser.
Time spent: +/- 20 hours.

shades are inaccurate,but the proportions are accurate.seems a skull study(all full of scars,the light does not correspond) done in a hurry.-serious criticism, are much better than an appreciation-

Totally understandable, if there is a deadline or some extra incentive to go for a cool/great piece, we always (human beings) tend to push ourselves a tad bit more, which is good (whatever the outcome).
As far as being happy about it... I guess we all tend to hit ourselves over the head when it's finally done, knowing we could do better if we would only try it all over again... (but that's good for progress, if we don't shut down completely... lol).

Yes we do. And I think that's what sets us apart. Wanting to get better, wanting to evolve. Whenever we are good at something and get good reactions we somehow stick to that skill yet we always crave to be better than before. I have only now discovered that I can do much more than I knew. I am trying out new things, using different styles and mediums than before and I feel I am getting better every minute yet I do think it could be better. I think no artist should say that they are at their top of their game because then thing you do becomes a trick, not art. Setting the bar high is a good thing yet you should feel good about what you make and wanting to get better. Otherwise (for me) art is not fun anymore. Art defines us in so many ways.

Well, keep experimenting is all I can say 
Feeling good about what you make though is... a love-hate relationship I guess... I sometimes feel like it's a struggle, yet at others I simply enjoy it to the fullest as much as I can.
We can't always be "in the zone" at all times
Of course, if we were to hate what we do, we wouldn't do it anyway.
