Description HAH! I REDID THIS WHOLE THING! SO PLEASE FAV THE ORIGINAL ARTIST AND THE BETTER VERSION ... NOT THIS ONE! PLEASE! [link]

I colored a lineart done by !lustinthewind ... the lineart's link is: [link]

if you please, +fav both accounts because, as said, we both deserve it

I colored this on photoshop. I thought the line art was magnificent and deserved some color. So, here ya go! If you don't get the title, go to her piece of work and it will be in the description.

great colouring job!! good stuff.
hey you might know. someone told me ages ago but i forget. how do you make the line art so that its a new layer with the white parts as transparent?? i am guessing that you'd know. i'm hoping you know.

Well, when you put multiple layers, I am assuming you want just the black lines to show through, so that is what I am going to give directions with that assumption in mind. I am going to show you how I do it (as exact as possible and I am going to describe every step because I know that I used to get lost on some peoples descriptions):

1) Make (at least) three layers by dragging the original and copying it (make it three so that after step two you still have at lease two layers: so that you have at least one for just lines and one for coloring. You can have as many as you would like really. Sometimes I have layer for each different color. Like: clothes, skin, hair, accessories... I will describe that bit later)

2) Change each layer from "normal" to "mulitply" (delete the original base layer because you cannot change its mode and that just bugs me)

3) Then, close the eye on all but one layer so that you can take the "magic eraser*" to make certain things transparent (ex. If I wanted a layer for just the skin then I would use the magic eraser to on all the parts of the picture that were white so that only the areas with skin are left.) Do this for each layer (but only do "magic eraser" in parts where you won't be coloring on that specifi layer because if you use paint butcket and magic eraser on everything you will end up with choppy lines like I did on parts of Ed's hair in this pic... but, if this happens, just go to your "only lines layer" and paint over those lines with the black paint brush to smooth them out) and for the top layer (the one just for the black lines) you will use the magic eraser on every white part of the picture so that all that is left are the black lines (because if you do not make all the white parts transparent, they will appear on top of the color and mess it up), thus making all the white parts transparent.

*magic eraser = thats the one with the star and it will get all the white in that specific area, but use the eraser to get the little pen marks or smudges that are in the white areas that you don't want. I like to use the eraser when doing the smaller areas so that the lines stay smooth

P.S. Two fun coloring tricks I use:
"Fade" = when I have just colored some shading, I go to the "edit" menu and select "fade brush tool" and thats how I get the mulitple colors for shading. I make a base coat (without fading anything) and then I find a darker shade and then color the most shading and fade that. I repeat this until I have the desired affects (I used this on Ed's jacket, as well as everything in this one:[link] ). Sometimes I will then paint white and fade that if I want a lighter part (like hair shine). I also use this for eyes. I use one color and fade it by using the white paint brush. I will paint an U around the iris and fade that until its just a little lighter than the original. I then paint a smaller U inside that one and fade it. I do this until its lightest on the outside (to make it darker I then go to another layer and do the same thing but instead I paint it where the eye is a darker shade and do the fade stuff.)
"blur tool" = I used this tool on Ed's eyes. I used it on each of the layers where I had the color and blurred it until it looked conitnuous. I used this technique on his eyes, his hand, a little on the jacket, his coat and shoe's shiney parts, and the kitties!

P.P.S.
(these techniques were taught to me by George Chen when he was at my house one time and if you want more details or a better description, he made a tutorial on deviant art here: [link] )

P.P.P.S.
I am sorry about this being so long. I think I was needlessly long, but I didn't want you to get confused about anything.... heh heh  It think I took too long describing it.

thanks. i do that technique alot. its just that someone showed me ages ago how to do it real simple and quick so that the black lines are just their own layer on top, and i can just colour in underneath it to my leisure.
thanks for trying to help your a gem

Ed is this one (correct! YEAH! Have a ), but he is saying "*sigh*, alphonse..." because Al always wants to save every homeless kitty they see... THUS the cats. The original artist talks about that.... but I was lazy.
