Description
My freak-self for Decembersville, revamped a little in looks and now with a past!Ugh, this picture is the best I could get... It's ok in some ways, but...mostly not
aaaand this may get lengthy.....
Name: Penumbra Gelidy [she prefers Penny]
Age: 19
Family: dead missing; they'll get there, someday...
Freak qualities: monkey hands/feet & tail, doorknobs on her head...
Occupation: Generally cleaning somewhere or other; her monkey-hand-feet and tail allow her to get places. In her spare time she creates doo-dads 'n things from the city's junk. If someone's interested, she'll sell it, but more than likely it'll become part of her growing collection of 'useless fun stuff'.
Living space: Somewhere near (or in) the Decembersville dump; she also has extensive 'accommodations' created out of junk that grow in her spare time.
These 'creations' are usually situated rather high up in the air, for she loves heights. In fact, when on ground-level, she's clumsier than when she's at a higher altitude.
She also bleeds a lot randomly. Nosebleeds, bruises, lacerations, bleeding from her mouth... And anything will set it off; walking into a wall, bumping into someone/thing, tripping... I think she has Von Willebrand Disease. She doesn't know it, of course; she just finds her bleeding a bother. On the plus side, she's gotten rather good at cleaning up blood. hence her typical job...
Her parents and her lived a fairly 'normal' life, I suppose; as much as possible in the human world. They taught her she was different but in a good way. She was cheerful, as was her father. There weren't many big squabbles about her 'features' because Penny was home-schooled. She didn't often go to the markets and stuff with her parents. When she did go, and saw how people would treat them all badly, she felt bad, even scared, but her parents told her it was just because the others didn't understand and they were scared of them. If she was always nice, eventually, they'd come around.
One day, when she was 15, her parents were more fidgety than usual. They were acting weird, packing up things, throwing others away. When they started tossing family pictures, her questions finally had to be answered. They told her that someone, something bad was going to pass by in the coming week. They wouldn't tell her what, but it was very bad for them all. Penny didn't like not knowing it all, but had to go along with it.
Her father stayed with the house, which was out of the way anyway, and sent his wife and daughter out into the wilderness to wait until the danger had passed. He was normal, the danger shouldn't be great for him. They had made it look like he lived alone, and that was how he would act if anyone came by.
Penny and her mother journeyed away from their home, and waited. They couldn't see the house, or hear what was happening. Impatient, worried, Penny could see her mother's nerves fraying. Eventually, her mother told Penny to go and find the town they had told her stories about, Decembersville, a safe place for people like them. She and her father would catch up. It was obviously too dangerous to stick around. She would just go and get Penny's father and find her again later. Her mother told her not to worry, not to come or wait for them, just go. And then her mother went back to the house.
Penny, trusting and obedient, started off, a bit anxious but believing her mother's words. After a while, though, her confidence waned... Shouldn't they be catching up by now? And so, Penny turned around and carefully went back home.
When she got there, no one was around. Not even the wind was stirring. But it was no longer her home; it was a charred black mess. Penny was scared to call out at first, but seeing no one around, found it safe to call out hesitantly to her parents. No response.
Wandering around in the ashes, she found their bodies; or, what was left of them. She gagged; she ran; she hid; she cried.
When she woke up, she sullenly left, without looking back. She wandered, searching halfheartedly for Decembersville. When she finally found it, her joy was great. It looked rather dreary, but she loved it all the same. She knew she was going to have a good life here, her mother had told her they would. She cut her own hair, to remind her it was a new start. She told others that her parents were coming behind her, somewhere. They would get there, soon; and then they could live together again.
Days passed, weeks, years. People listened less and less to her babblings of her parents' arrival. Some believed that her parents just wanted to get rid of her and so sent her to Decembersville. But she still holds out hope that they'll come through the gates someday.
Her bag has a top that looks somewhat like a face, and seems to fit everything and anything. (it doesn't, quite, but she's yet to find something she can't stuff in it)
Things in bag: nail kit, sewing kit, first aid kit, random scraps of fabric and other things, paper, pencils, crackers, dog biscuits...
She doesn't keep it in her purse, but she also has a large blanket she adds scraps of fabric to when she finds them. It's not exactly pretty, but it works.
...told you it'd get lengthy.
SO there's her story; I can't do much more now as my arms feel like rebelling.

Door knobs... completely useless and RANDOM objects... I like xD
The monkey-pieces-parts I like as well, not something you see every day. I also love the general scavenger/tinkerer/random collecter/creator person feel she has to her. Very original and well done!

Indeed!
Though I suppose the knobs could come in handy if she's about to run into a wall/pole/other obvious object; someone could just grab one and steer her away~
Thank you~!

An old, bend-up bicycle wheel~ (she'll probably find some use for it... somewhere...)
