Description [link]

Every once and a while it's nice to draw Johnny. I know this isn't as good as Final Wish or the others, and I don't care.

This is done with black watercolor. I started using watercolor this week and really like it.

"He wears his heart
safety pinned to his backpack
His backpack is all that he knows
Shot down by strangers
whose glances can cripple
the heart and devour the soul

All alone he turns to stone
while holding his breath half to death
Terrified of whats inside
to save his life he crawls
like a worm from a bird
crawls like a worm from a bird

Out of his mind away
pushes him whispering
must have been out of his mind
mid-day delusions of pushing this out of his head
maybe out of his mind."
-The Used.

I love how concentrated the black is, and then the white emptiness everywhere else. Great overall composition.

Plus, you get major points for using The Used's lyrics

Yes, the song just happened to come on while I was drawing this, and I thought to myself how much the lyrics just seemed to correlate well.

Thank you. I really like the words "raw emotion", so I am very flattered that you comment on that.. It's the main reasons as to why I like the character Johnny.

SlayerSyrena In reply to ImagineTheEnding [2010-01-27 23:19:27 +0000 UTC]

Oh, you're welcome. I'm glad!

I'm outta the loop though. Is the person in the artwork a person in real life or is Johnny a character?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ImagineTheEnding In reply to SlayerSyrena [2010-01-27 23:22:27 +0000 UTC]

Johnny is from a comic called Johnny the Homicidal Maniac written by Jhonen Vasquez (same guy who did Invader Zim). It's an independent comic published by Slave Labor Graphics.

SlayerSyrena In reply to ImagineTheEnding [2010-01-27 23:24:49 +0000 UTC]

Ohhh, duh. I met Jhonen Vasquez once. Okay, I should've known that. LOL

ImagineTheEnding In reply to SlayerSyrena [2010-01-27 23:31:05 +0000 UTC]

You've met Jhonen and didn't know who Johnny was? Silly you.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SlayerSyrena In reply to ImagineTheEnding [2010-01-27 23:43:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, well that was awhile back. And that was during my Invader Zim craze.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ImagineTheEnding In reply to SlayerSyrena [2010-01-27 23:57:44 +0000 UTC]

JTHM actually came before Invader Zim, but yeah I understand what you mean. I think a lot of people just watch the show and don't read his other works.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SlayerSyrena In reply to ImagineTheEnding [2010-01-28 00:18:09 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I saw his previous material before Zim. I guess I'm just not used to seeing Johnny so wonderfully represented. I seem to remember him looking more like a stick figure, in V's style that is.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ImagineTheEnding In reply to SlayerSyrena [2010-01-28 00:21:35 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't know if I drew Johnny wonderfully represented, but thank you for the compliment. Jhonen's work was always intended for humor, as he put it. I take it a bit more seriously myself, and so I always draw Johnny seriously. I guess as far as the actual comic goes, the stick figure makes sense. Who really knows though.

CapQyu [2010-01-27 20:27:29 +0000 UTC]

I thought that Bird and Worm fit him quite well too. 83

I love how quiet this picture is, in the void of the white, it seems like the kind of silence you'd herein the middle of an empty park You can hear something, but nothing that you put your finger on. The use of water colours is absolutely lovely, and you can't help but fel a little lonely looking at it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ImagineTheEnding In reply to CapQyu [2010-01-27 23:14:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. Hmm...I like your comment a lot. What I kind of wanted to intend was the feeling of someone whimpering, but no one's there to do so. The park seems interesting to me, because a park is comfortable, but a empty park isn't. It's a good comparison to the image.

Thanks for looking into it too, by the way, and making the image more then what it is. Ink on paper.

CapQyu In reply to ImagineTheEnding [2010-01-28 19:35:28 +0000 UTC]

It's no problem! That's what DA is for, right? You're also correct about the empty park being uncomfortable. *Shudders.*
