I've been depressed lately because i've been taking only pretty pictures as you can see in my gallery. So here's something more morbid.I guess one of the most messed up organisations in mankind's history has been the holy spanish inquisition and here's my interpretation of that hate. What if that would happen again in Europe but then again it did just happen in former Jugoslavia where people were killed because of their religion.

yeah! i'm spanish too and i feel the same of Middernachtlopper. you know... i'm not a history student but, like other spanish people, i have learn in school all about the inquisition and it has nothing to do with our "holy week".
But the photo is cool!

No no no. I'm spanish and a history student and I would like to clarify some things. First of all excuse me if my english is not very good. You have mix two different concepts for this artwork. On one hand we have the "cofrades", who are the men in your image, and on the other hand we have the Inquisition, which has NOTHING to do with the "cofrades".
The "cofrades" are people who belong to the "cofradΓas", which were a kind of social organizations created in the Middle Ages. In "Semana Santa" (=Holy Week), "cofrades" go out to the streets carry on images called "pasos" that represent the Christ's passion (the moments before his death). For all of them being a part of this processions is a sing of FAITH. Is a way to show how catholics share the pain of Christ. Some of them do penance during the processions looking for God's forgiveness of their sins or because they have made a promise (like, "if God cures my father of his illness I'll go to all the processions barefoot"). They walk for hours (while the procession lasts) barefoot, wearing heavy chains tied up to their ankles, or even loading a big wood cross. But there is NOT racism or hate in this processions. Maybe we can say there is self-hate or self-injury on them, because of the repressive moral of Catholic religion, and our theatrical way of being, with a taste for blood, pain, blame, sin, and penance. But there is not racism in them. They cover their faces for avoiding bad rumours, seeking anonimity. This is a issue between God and the person. Nobody has to know.
About the Holy Spanish Inquisition. It is true that their main occupation was finding false converts (jews or muslims, even some foreign protestants), to the catholic faith, because we have to remember that they were expulsed some years before. The big shows of the Inquisition power, were called "autos de fe". I think you got confused, and mix up the Holy Week Processions with the "autos de fe". Formally, the Holy Inquisition never killed anyone, because they were hand over the civil authorities. Of course this not release their blame and responsability. But if we study the Holy Spanish Inquisition we can see it wasn't as bad as the other European countries think. The Black Legend has a lot to do with this; political propaganda to hurt the Spanish Empire, that was the greatest by that time in a attempt to achieve more power (for the English, French... monarchy). Other countries also have their own inquisitions, and Spanish wasn't the first of them (although it was the one which lasted more time). Civil authorities tortures in most of the European countries were worst than Inquisition ones. And the number of executed people is not as high as the Black Legend has said. Just in the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre, the French slaughtered more people (in this case Huguenots) than the Holy Spanish Inquisition in his whole existence. Of course, it is still an awful organization which was created to control the IDEAS of the people and suppress those who thought different, or had a different religion. But most of the "evil" surrounded to the Spanish Inquisition has more to do with the Black Legend than with the reality.
Anyway, excuse me for this long and boring history class. I just got quite offended reading the comments here, like "yeah yeah, evil Inquisition, really racists" and seeing the evident ignorance mixing up KKK, Holy Week and Inquisition. Because we have to remember that ignorance is a lot of times the main cause of hatred, which is always detestable.

Shit, thats good. It may not be your best work technically but the message is strong and stands out. You can relate to it on many levels not just from the inquisition. KKK, hatred, ignorance, dogma, fear, I can go on and on. Its a great job and a very powerful piece.

they talk about these robes in The Da Vinci Code.....where i am from they are the traditional robes of the KKK...which came together and killed Blacks, or African-Americans, just because of the color of their skin....its very horrifiying to know that people were killed for pointless reasons, especially given the fact that i am half Black....n e ways great picture...

Originaly KKK was just a socal club in some collage in the south. Put soon KKK started to murder blacks.
If ther are two things in the world I dont understand they are raicisim and homofobia. It is like hateing people pecouse of the color of theyr eye ore they are left handet.
