Description Like some of you may know, my DA name is of jewish origin. I guess i´ve always been fascinated with jewish culture and religion. One of the stories that i heard as a child, was the story of "Golem", a man-like creature created from clay to protect the rabbi's people from oppression and was only activated when holy words were placed in its mouth or written on his forehead. The word on her forehead is hebrew and it means "to live" and if you wipe it off, the golem dies.

In a sad note, as i was taking this picture last weekend, a certain someone in DA wrote a journal entry entitled "Antisemitism" and there were links to my fetish pictures, that he wanted to be banned in DA. Luckily most of the comments we´re in my favor. People should understand, that hatred is hatred, and a picture is just picture, and a cigar is just a cigar.

The thing that made really sad was that she did know that i don´t in any way condone antisemitistic ideologies. I guess i put all the pain that her lies made me feel into this picture. It´s OK not to like my pictures, as long as you don´t spread lies about me, or make me look like something i´m not.

The story of the Golem is a significant part of Medieval Jewish folklore and heritage. The Golem was a powerful giant and monster even, created out of river clay by the Rabbi Loewe of Prague ... but Golem was a protector and guardian of the Jewish people against anti-semites.

Huh, I always read that the word on the golem's head was the word for truth. I guess it's just different variations of the same story.

I to love the Golem story, I'm Jewish myself and although not really practicing, I take great pride in my Jewish heratige, I also love anything creepy, scary, and plain supernatural

I also love how you gave the golem a kind of emo goth look frankenstainiss look, some sholars think that Mary Shelly took some insperation from the golem story for Frankenstain

Also, the golem isn't Prague's only claim to scary fame, I've heard that it's filled to the brim with ghosts and goblins, it's like the second most haunted place in the world, the first being in my opinon the British Ilse

I to also HATE HATE HATE anti-semetics, they make me sick!!!!!!!!!!!
I say bring back the golem and have it knock the stuffing out of all anti-semitics

I abolutely adore this picture. The story of the Golem is one of my favorites and you captured the mood of the tale so wonderfully here! I've always felt pretty bad for the poor Golem...

And don't let other people's bullshit get you down. It really just amazes me that there are still people out there who are anti-semetics. Come on, people! What is this, Medieval Europe!? You'd think people would have grown out of that nonsense already.

I for one think your pictures are amazing. And this one is so fantastical, I've heard of the Golem legend as well and this picture completely captures that essence of both fragility and power at the same time. Outstanding!

I think it's horrible when people lash out at others just because their views are different. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if someone doesn’t like you're art they shouldn't look at you pictures, rather than be bitchy and take a big spaz about it.

A really excellent and sad picture...

I'll say it to conclude for all those who said before me (I read the story many times, it's one of my favorite ): the word inscribed on the Golem's forehead was אמת (truth). When he was killed, they erased the א leaving מת (dead)

Although I really like how you made it too... it's like showing what the Golem wanted to be written there

Simply amazing. The Golem is said to still rest here in Prague, maybe one day he will really wake up and smash all the antisemitistic dullheads who don't deserve anything else for their blindness and stupidity.
Spreading hatered is like spreading a disease. It's easy to get and impossible to stop.

Amazing picture, it gives me goosebumps..

Hey, I really like this picture and when I saw the Hebrew words on its forehead I automatically opened the picture..
I've never heard the story about the Golem and after your words I went to my mother to hear the story. (I'm Jewish and I'm from Israel)
So the word that was written on the Golem was this:
אמת = Emet (in transcription) = Truth
and the way they could kill the Golem was by erasing the first word-
א - Alef (like Alfa)
when you Erase the word Alef from the Word Emet ( אמת - מת ) you get the word `Dead`( מת.

Huh, I thought it was you wrote the name of god in there. Being a holy word that carries its power you don’t usually flaunt it around and being a big part of the jewish faith to never destroy or disfigure the name of god, to break it and inevitably kill the golem is to insult god and possibly damn oneself thus why only rabbis can do it if there’s no other way to survive.

Now I want to go to Prague.

In truth the story of the Rabbi took clay for the river near his village, which using his knowledge about God and God's works he constructed the golem to protect his fellow Jews from the pogroms. Pogroms are when the outsiders come into the Jewish ghetto and kill people, with or without any reason. Divine really means knowledge or wisdom, as in to divine, meaning to bring into thought. Well the rabbi's knowledge of God, allowed him to basically use the same power, God's that is, to make the golem, a copy of Adam... however he was not successful, the Golem took his orders to protect to literally. Thus the Golem slew the outsiders rather than just defending, since killing was wrong, according to legend the rabbi removed the first letter of the three letter word on the golem's forehead, the three letter word was "Emet," meaning truth, when you remove the E it turns into Met, meaning Death. As such the holy power fueling the golem left its crude form and it returned to clay. Later the story was retold as propaganda against the Jews, labeling it as witchcraft. There are many myths about the powers of Rabbi. Mysticism, the lost art of the rabbi in myths, was the power of god used by mortals. They could create life via golems, or kill people with a word... as well as many other quasi-divine powers. My own name is Emmett a more english version of Emet, which is how I heard the story from my parents, who are Jewish.

B"H
I'm jew, and i study talmud, kabalah, and of coure, Torah.
I like very much your picture about the Golem, very intresting work. There's many pictures on the net about the Jewish cementery in
Prague, and the Sinagogue, that you can see to figure the enviroment of the story. Prague still being the old city of Prague.
About the comment about you and antisemitism, don't let that hurt you, and don't let that stop your talented art.

Keep doing good art.

Hashem bless you. She barejeja Adonai elokeinu.
