Description
Note: This is one the paintings for my final thesis project.Short summary of the main theme:
A simple but highly important issue in collective idea of life is that “human beings” has a meaning. But the “meaning of man” is something that is likely been buried long ago. It is something very rarely considered that “the life of man is important in some way”. Not many in this busy life know for sure who or what a man actually is or should be according to many important things. The sense of true belief is missing. A belief on something, a meaning that makes man all precious and important as he should be, because he is. This buried thought is depicted as something that is rejected just like a crumpled paper. An old thought thrown away as mankind aged along time and swirl of the world.
Reference and inspirational aspects:
Combination of a few quotes and my own taste with this particular topic, I chose some selected verses from the exclusively divine poetry of Allama Iqbal’s.
Painting theme:
Selected verse for this specific piece is,
Abtar az andesha-e-sood o zayan hay zindagi,
hay kabhi jan aur kabhi tasleem-e-jan zindagi.
(Allama Iqbal)
Paraphrase: Life is more aloft then the fear of gain and loses. Sometimes the soul and sometimes to surrender the soul is life.
Symbols:
Two surfaces: As two aspects of life.
Standing man: As a stable human life.
Crouched man: As a suffered human life.
Light in the hand: As surrendering one’s life.
Torn paper from the middle: As lose.
Water drop: As temporary gain.
Media:
Oil on canvas.
Size:
2’ X 7’ Feet (each)

Holy crap.... this is -beautiful-.
I've always been a fan of things with crazy symbolism, but this takes the cake on the.. y'know... "Crazy awesome symbolism of art" area. If there is such a thing, which there probably isn't. Shh.
Not only is this rich with symbolism, but it's also gorgeous just in general. The colors are all wonderful... Maybe 'cause I'm a fan of blue. And it looks as if it was done in watercolor--which, in my opinion, is a great thing; watercolor is a beautiful medium that's looks really easy, but is hard to use right. And you definately, -definately- used it right.
You've probably heard this a million times, but hey, you can hear it once more. This piece rocks my world, and it's greatly deserving of both a DD and a fav.

Well, firstly, thanks a lot. crazy awesome symbolism art. Thats something good to have. *laughs*
I'm a fan of blues myself. They always take the world to it's depths, feel of freedom and wonderful in every way.
And,...........uh.......hate to disappoint you but, it's done in oil actually. On canvas. But yet water colours itself is a superb medium. I've done it alot and yes it seems easy but is hard to use. Thats the beauty of it.
And for the millionth time but I guess it's wonderful to say it, thanks again for letting me rock your world.

amazing... beautiful in its excecution and incredibly well thought out... so very true about humanity... in being what we recognise as human we have lost our sense of self and living only for the sake of being alive... it makes you wonder what the world would be like if humans had never evolved into thinking creatures... some might say thinking is our curse but people such as yourself have produced amazing works of art through thought, imagination and creativity, so there are a few out there who can truly appreciate and produce beauty, from the world around them or from their own minds... well i kind of went off topic a bit there but oh well
great piece, and very thought provoking

You went off the topic, for that I thank you as made me wonder a dozen more things, like some believe the gift of think as a curse. You are so right about that. Considering it as a gift and cherish it while you have it instead we just sometimes try to shut the world out of our minds. I mean, have anyone never seen a mentally retarded person and people with schizophrenia. What agony they live, not having their minds on holds, never been able to think straight. Do they even have the privilege of remembering happiness or even a sweet fragrance of a Rose? Who are we to consider a gift irreplaceable as a curse? Unreasonable as well as down right pathetic.
I see I’m running along with you. I’ll cut it short.
Thank you so much for commenting. And thanks for the fav.

This is truly one of the most amazing and symbolic pictures I have ever set my eyes upon.
Your explanation is something I feel the very same way about. Emptiness has wracked us all to a point we cannot return from. Humans are no longer worried about the meaning of life. Most of us are simply worried about when we will next have sex, eat, or sleep.
Let's face it, folks--we're animals. We always have been(this is coming from a non religious person, by the way).
Therefore, although we no longer care what it is, it remains in front of us. The meaning of life is to live. To live on this planet means you must be able to survive by any means possible. To survive....is to be human.
However, a majority of the world...nay, a majority of the civilized world, no longer needs to fear, to worry. They simply live for the sole purpose of existing. They don't care why they breathe, why they exist. They are just glad to be alive. This isn't necessarily a bad thing....it's just a small form of ignorance, really. The term "pull the wool over my eyes" comes to mind.
I have determined that many actually are happy not knowing what will become of them, and where their lives will take them. This is neither good nor bad. It is their way. Others, like me, are curious as to where they will be in 5 years, or even 10.
These two types of people seem to be(more or less) represented in your piece.
On a final note, Survival of the Fittest has disappeared. It has been replaced with Survival of the one who knows the most people that will cover his ass when he falters, feed him, keep him free from sickness and harm, and satisfy his urges on a whim. It is truly a sad state of affairs.
Sorry if I have babbled a bit too much. I was just pleased to see someone with similar views as mine.
...no question about that.
Excellent work.

*laughs* I’m kind of wondering if you have any thought of me being against none-religious part of the world. Point of fact, I consider people like myself firstly stands in the same circle like everyone else. Doesn’t matter whether a religions part comes with any or not. We feel the same, we see the same, what we do with it, is our choice but that doesn’t make neither lesser than human.
I like your way of thinking a lot. Like you said similar views as mine. Naturally your points, just a small form of ignorance, the term "pull the wool over my eyes" are making me feel like, you just made my day as you inspired a great deal of my art spirit. *laughs*

A headbanger, indeed. Many a day have I slammed my head into things, trying to understand it all.
This is how I have drawn the conclusions that I explained to you above. Trial, error, and much effort.
No, I didn't think you would have anything against we non-religious types. I simply make it known that I express my opinions as that of an Atheist, so that it puts it on a different scale, and people know where I am coming from. People are really offended when they are called animals, usually.
I am quite happy that I inspired your artistic abilities. It's always good when someone appreciates your artwork. As rarely as it happens to me, I love the feeling, myself.

I hope you didn't slammed too hard. And your conclusions are very much......conclusive.
I admit about being called animal is an outrageous thing to hear no doubt. But what can one do if someone really is an animal, and also that might include one's ownself in that catagory. Better accept it and then neutralize it can be the best policy that usually egotistical race don't follow.
You have good capabilities for thinking up reason. Your artwork must be nice as well. I'll take a look and then get back to you on that. Thanks again.

congratulations on your very own daily deviation immortelle an excellent piece indeed, not only with the setup, but the concept work to go behind it (a really original one to my eye also, that's damned hard in the world of art these days). Despite me not having any traditional media talent whatsoever (so grasping how you can create this is beyond me
) it IS plain to see that a lot of thought, time and patience as been injected into this piece.
Very well deserved, very well done, very +fav.

Hey there. Glad you dropped by and thanks a lot.
I think you already have such a wonderful skill with your own style and all, that working with a traditional medium won’t be a problem for you. You should try it often. On the other hand, I envy you for such imagination and being able to do things of art the way you do.
thought, time and patience……and Injected I’d say that’s a bit understatement. Injecting is so delicate. I threw off and dumped a truck load of it all that I almost got fed up with it in the near end. Took me month and more to get it the way you see it now. I left it alone for a while once when it was becoming impossible to see anything done right in it. Then a few days later, it seemed like,……….every thing was ok.
Thanks again Alyn. Appreciate your comment a lot and the fav.

oh how i love thesis pieces. so much thought put into it.
this simply astounds me. it's not too often i see segmented art pieces done so well. very surrealistic, and i love your method of chiarosciaro shading.
your thesis is very valid, as well. some questions arise on my own, too. i know the idea does not center around what the meaning of man is, but i'd like to know your basis of thought, about how you came to this thought.
i notice how both human figures are somewhat looking at each other. perhaps this is a symbol that both sides of the aspect know each other, acknowledging that they both exist .. or perhaps are well familiar with each other?
there are so many thoughts that are generated in this, but i can't seem to organize them into written form.
i'll just end by saying this is an awesome piece, and i like the concept.

Well, first of all, thank you very much for such nice compliments. Really it some times blooms one’s heart to its full capacity if an artwork is judged on such level as you did.
Secondly I appreciate your interest in theme work as well as pictorial representation, that I can clearly see from the questions you asked. Glad you asked. Only if you are willing to read a long explaination, but I’ll try to be short.
Particularly, this theme never came out of nowhere, and it’s not something too special. What I wrote as the beginning para for my theme report, clearly states that. It started like this….
Usually when something is about to be explained in words is firstly thought of how and where to begin. Some what similar thing occurs while creating an art work. Reliable sources such as ideas, themes, nature of story, appealing inspirations are there as initiatives, but “how to start”, that’s another matter.
Surely enough, my thesis has taken too much time in this particular “hindrances”. Searching for a perfect theme and then creating the most appropriate paintings out of it, was a difficult and some what pain staking task. What I have chosen now, as a theme, is something not utterly out of the blue. In fact it is and was always inside the blue. I haven’t chosen anything too complicated, as my minuscule brain usually brushes off any thing too heavy for it due to its insignificant level of thinking.
As you must have noticed, I was gone utterly nuts when I wrote that. But your question is directing towards the start of it all. For that, I had two themes in my mind all the way from the beginning. The first one that came was a crumpled paper. The feel of destructed element. That theme sticks to me when my teacher actually forced me to go ahead and do it once and for all. His trust in my skills for picking anything as a theme, even trashcan, would end up perfectly, was the main point where it all started. For weeks I just kept on drawing textures, and painted colour schemes. Only crumpled paper, but still no conclusive idea to collaborate with it. Going through a lot of boom and bangs, nothing came to mind. How to create something with “destructed element” was the real question.
Apart from that, I had a thought like, everything done in this world is due to some purpose. People don’t get on buses every day without charting their courses. People don’t even brush their hair with out reason. As I am a very religious type, I can say I can’t even imagine a life ending with out a concept of here after and all. So my thinking led to facts that, a real meaning of life is some what missing in every life. Meaning of, why one should live, and why one should die. And more, why happiness comes and losses are still attached to ones life. The point came like, they are the real facts of life one should deal with. There is no choice in that. But only choice remains is to search of one’s meaning and live a life for it. Real purpose for living. We are the wanderer is search for something. Nothing more and nothing less. So that is where it began. Something to search for, but no one is searching for in this busy and hectic life. So crumpled it up.
Now for your second question about figures. I’d say, well spotted. As these two characters represent two motives. Standing man (on the left side) as a stable human life. Crouched man (on the right side) as a suffered human life. The theme is gain and loss, should not matter much, as they will come and go as time passes. Quirks of Fate make it possible. So the man standing is a capable one, who has his stability in life and can stand up to what he achieves. Yet the other is not. He is sort of surrendering his life to the circumstances facing him. The first man looks to a level where he might come to one day in his life, i.e. his loss. His happiness is momentary. And also, the downed man will have his chance for being the person who is on the other realm. A matter of hope. The real thought is, when you are happy and stable; don’t count on it as you might lose it any day. Just cherish it while you have it. You can’t keep it for ever, just be thankful. But when you loose and fall to the ground and nothing is left, only thing remain is to go up one day. So hope, faith is the thing you should grasp.
Ok I’m boring things up. I hope you won’t mind that. Eventually I knew I can’t keep it short so…..spare with me.
Anyways, if you come up with more questions please do ask and if you have anything to suggest, just shoot. It might inspire my next theme.
Thanks again.

I must say, this piece here is a new style of art, to be honest I never seen a style like this anywhere else. Perhaps I am not so active in the art scene as other professionals are, but I am peeking, still this is the first time seeing this type of style. I love it, it brings the dark, yet peacefulness to it, like we know death is scary and the thought to another place is peaceful, because we expect to be where its best, at least better from the one we had here. Great symbolic translation, though now that you told me that I see what you mean. If you hadn't, then my mind would go wild with what this is all about. My original interpretation on this would be...
The human heart left on the land of the unknown, walking away the last robot on Earth, though they very much has the human characteristic and feel, they are in disguises. They out grew humans, and they out grew themselves, until the very last stands realizing that he is left alone. The ying-yang type of art I see in this piece, as life to death, happiness to sadness, each frame has a story. The one in dark is after the robot dies in giving up searching the world for its kind, leaving his heart on the ground, while the one on the left kept on going, and the water is life ahead with the one he finds. Much like love, we can't stop looking for it. Great piece, keep up the good work. I think I'll try this type of style sometime.

As for my style, I don't know if this style exist, 'cause when I started this, my main goal was to be for ever different as well. And I wanted it so badly that I crumpled up everything *rolleyes*. Anyway, if you find something like this, do let me know. I'd really like to meet a few of my kind. And I'd suggest, do give it shot, it's challanging yet very interesting.
