Description
Note: This is one the paintings for my final thesis project.Short summary of the main theme:
A simple but highly important issue in collective idea of life is that “human beings” has a meaning. But the “meaning of man” is something that is likely been buried long ago. It is something very rarely considered that “the life of man is important in some way”. Not many in this busy life know for sure who or what a man actually is or should be according to many important things. The sense of true belief is missing. A belief on something, a meaning that makes man all precious and important as he should be, because he is. This buried thought is depicted as something that is rejected just like a crumpled paper. An old thought thrown away as mankind aged along time and swirl of the world.
Reference and inspirational aspects:
Combination of a few quotes and my own taste with this particular topic, I chose some selected verses from the exclusively divine poetry of Allama Iqbal’s.
Painting theme:
Selected verse for this specific piece is,
Abtar az andesha-e-sood o zayan hay zindagi,
hay kabhi jan aur kabhi tasleem-e-jan zindagi.
(Allama Iqbal)
Paraphrase: Life is more aloft then the fear of gain and loses. Sometimes the soul and sometimes to surrender the soul is life.
Symbols:
Two surfaces: As two aspects of life.
Standing man: As a stable human life.
Crouched man: As a suffered human life.
Light in the hand: As surrendering one’s life.
Torn paper from the middle: As lose.
Water drop: As temporary gain.
Media:
Oil on canvas.
Size:
2’ X 7’ Feet (each)

I've been browsing through paintings, so I've seen your other paintings, and I would have to say that this is my favorite. The crumpled texture is visually interesting, but unlike some of your others in the series, it doesn't overwhelm the picture. There are other textures and surfaces to focus on, such as the bubbly spheres, which I think are just awesome looking. Also, the way the piece is divided into two breaks up the space really well, so that you almost have to look at the two halves seperately, which are each unique, but also have the same basic composition. And then the diagonal yellowish strip helps unify the two halves back together so that it is still viewed as one piece. Am I correct in saying that the idea behind the piece is that the knowledge of our true purpose as human beings is buried deep within our ancient past, and it is a knowledge that we have alienated from ourselves, or rejected to adopt our own flawed ego-centered idea of our purpose? And that this ancient knowledge of our true purpose is what connects us to our true nature as humans? Or am I misinterpreting your comments?

Firstly I truly admire the way you dug up till the depth of it, object as well as subject vise. For that I thank you. It is really great to have such people around who would go to the distance where we all go to snatch our ideas and bring them to our surfaces and make them possible enough to the availibity for the eyes of others.
Answering your question. yes you are right to suggest "knowledge of our true purpose as human beings is buried deep within our ancient past". And I would add, "buried within our self that we have forgotten."
Meaning of man. "Meaning", a word with such consistency of thick thoughts, sometimes people leave it behind to make their lives easier to live. But it never occurs usually that this thing haunts even so if you bury it deep enough for your satisfaction.
What you have pointed out, is absolutely what my real theme is. I'm glad you suggested all that.

I'm not so sure the problem is that people leave behind the idea of "meaning", but that they search for meaning in places that cannot give them what they seek. For example, many would look for meaning in superficial things like a new car, or a nice house to live in, or even in other people. The last one is not a bad place to look for meaning unless your relationships with people are based on superficial qualities, then you're stuck with the same problem. Even then people can't supply your happiness, they can only supplement it, and happiness is found within not without. Therein lies the problem with most people is that they search for meaning and happiness in things, people, and experiences outside of themselves when happiness only lies in discovering your true nature within. Now I must admit I was a bit disturbed by the tone of your series of paintings because they seemed to me to be very bleek, as if you were suggesting that mankind has strayed so far from his true nature as to be hopeless of ever returning. I felt a sense of loneliness, isolation, and purposelessness in your paintings, which I do often feel when thinking about the state of affairs of humankind, but I always hold out hope, and hope is a quality I felt was missing in your paintings. Did I misinterpret, or do you indeed feel very hopeless about the human condition as it now stands?

No no no. Ofcourse you are right in many aspects. Looking for happpiness within not without. My point is to search for self, meaning. Self is what basically have the characteristic of all the kind of things one wants for him or herself. Hope of Happiness, hope of betterment, belief, strength of one's belief is all with in. Not with out. And basically within is all that one can search for and should search. We are here to search for one's self. And every self is different. "Without" comes afterwards. Some people effect it, and some just remain effected if the "without" environment suitable to their interpretation. As for ancient belief, it is a path which shows a lot of things, good and bad that has already been experienced by mankind and sort of provides a good means to be able judge and not to do the same mistakes again.
My meaning in the "crumpled notion life", is that,............... life is more than just our concerns of our losses and profits. That are like coming and going. One should get a hold of their true belief. And that comes when a person knows the meaning of one's existence. True belief, saves the day.
But you know what, I'm truly glad you suggested and considered on expressing your views openly. Thank you so much.

I must really thank kil1k for guiding me to this marvelous painting! I love the deviding border in the middle and the ripped "paper". Also the composision itself is very good! But the greatest thing about it is how the balance is shifted from right to left and how the right side is made somewhat different by making the person sit. Very good! from me
