Maw was all ready to race. He stretched his limbs, went over what Mrs Netty said about using the magic, and wanted to show how good he was.

And at first, the magic worked well. He felt himself moving pretty fast through the water.

But when he opened his eyes, it reminded him of the last time he was rushing through the water, and panicked a bit.

Thankfully Mrs Netty noticed his struggles and raced out to make sure he was ok. Once he calmed down, she offered to try using the magic to push himself from one buoy to the next till he got to shore. Then once he was calm, they could try another race.
