Description This individual serves as a worker. He (a pronoun which is generally applied to them out of custom) is five times stronger than a human, able to work for twenty hours straight doing heavy labor in 50 degree and -50 degree weather with only a few hours of sleep and a couple liters of nutrient rich broth and a charging port to work. He and those like him can follow fairly complex instructions to the letter, either given verbally or by entering in commands through a laptop program. They are generally not capable of violence. Few people see what's beneath their thick polymer suits and when critically damaged they dissolve from the inside, leaving behind liquid slurry, bone fragments and shattered mechanisms.

Two decades ago they first appeared among a set of warring city states, provided by Ascendance Industries. A reclusive company based on a distant island with access to some exotic lost tech which they naturally guard rigorously. It set up shop in several cities offering a rental service for these cybernetic laborers to governments and companies. At first they appeared in specialist jobs, but as time went by their numbers increased. According to Ascendance Industries these machines do have organic components but these are grown under medium, which is generally believed to be true for most instances. However as time goes on, there are reports of ships being sent out full of criminals, vagrants and people from defiant farming communities that often get swept up in the inter-city state wars are sent to Ascendance Industries for "processing".

The backstory reminds me of Keith Thompson's Scribe and Line Worker while the general appearance, rubberized suits and concept of dissolving into a slurry of organic detritus and broken machinery upon dying is giving me vibes of the Gasmen from Joe Golem And The Drowning City by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden.
