Description

There are some well off well equipped mercenary companies out there, these two are not from them. They were peasants once in their youth, until an army marched through their village, absconded with their crops and livestock, burned their homes and killed those who put up a fight. They spent some time as bandits trying to keep their surviving loved ones alive with what they could scrape up, salvage, steal and sell before they met up with a small company of rough men that looked through the war torn countryside and found them. They offered a sack of turnips to the families which could produce young men capable of holding their own in a fight and regular wages. After a sparring mach they were deemed to fit the bill and were brought in with a company of a few hundred such men.

Training was limited to basic formations, following orders and practice with weapons. They were given some forth hand weapons and armor, most of which was battlefield salvage as well as a few makeshift articles. There was no uniform other than a basic badge and whatever motley clothes they could get their hands on and patch together. Their tactics were simple on the battlefield: archers were at the rear while melee soldiers got out in front. They had a high turnover rate, even with their policy of buggering off whenever things seemed to be going south. However there was always a fresh supply of displaced peasants, beggers, bar room brawlers, petty criminals, runaways and similar outcasts to replace losses. Nor was there a shortage of wars for them to find employ in.
