Description Before the arrival of Infrastructrual Weapons, their had been various attempts to try to combine firearms with close quarters weapons. Axe pistols and sword pistols were among the most common, but others existed as well. This trend continued after the arrival of Infrastructural designs. This weapon is among the more exotic of these.

This weapon is a modified halberd designed to serve as a rough shotgun. It has four short smoothbore barrels with caplock mechanisms near the front of the weapon's head. These are intended to be fired off in rapid succession as the wielder closes into close quarters. Once the shots are fired, the weapon is a purely close quarter weapon until the the conclusion of the battle.

These weapons gained some popularity after Yans Golricstein, a well known veteran mercenary captain used such a weapon when engaging a host of orcs near the Empire of Allergorn's western border in 30 IA, killing between four and twelve orcs personally depending on who you ask. A fact that that has been exploited by the Dwarves of Blackwater Mountain who made it were quite keen to exploit to move more merchandise. Some of these weapons have two barrels, some have four and a few have but one. Among Yans' other notable attribute is a steadfast personal resistance to using rifles, which he sees as cowardly. In truth, these weapons of are at most of marginal use on the modern battlefield as their effective range is extremely limited. Even so, old mercenaries who are stubborn about change and a few nobles with more money than sense have been buying these weapons.

I wonder if something like this, but more sophisticated, could be developed in a world where people just never figured out a bayonet and pike-and-shot tactics continued 'till the final obsolescence of cavalry.

That's good. And interesting idea it is. I could only dream of something like this, so for me it's outside the box.

It's merely a matter of combining existing elements into a new whole.
