Description
IT'S A GUNDAM!!The gundam was constructed from this: 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model… So I can only take credit for making lineart out of it and coloring it. This was an exercise in putting a character into an environment.
I also wanna say a few things about Duo.
This is the first time in many years I've drawn him. It's the first time in a few years I've really wanted anything to do with him. The whole short haired Duo shtick I had was a thing to make me distinct from other Duo fans and at some point I think I ran that gambit into the ground. It taught me many things, but I eventually got tired of it, mostly because it depended on an bad end AU, and while those can be alot of fun, they do get depressing after a while. Also the original intent was just to troll people who would, at the time, throw a tantrum at the idea that someone would dare cut off their husbano's precious hair.
Duo definitely influenced my personality, some of my philosophical stances, I used him as a model for certain things, as far as where my thoughts on when/how to use violence. That is, only when you need to defend something or fight for something that matters. I think that's really the important message of the gundam series since one of the biggest message is that of pacifism. Wing explored a world were such ideals were put to the test and ultimately triumphed for a time, but peace is fragile and violence is easy.
Duo had a negative influence in my life as well. I used him as an emotional crutch, I used him as an artistic crutch, I used him as a way to seek self adulation-- or something similar to that, mostly through RP. The biggest issue of course was the fact that I altogether stopped drawing for many years, choosing instead to RP, which is why there are such gaps in my gallery.
I ended up putting all the RP related gundam images in my storage because I felt that they were just symbols of procrastination and time wasted. I don't regret making them to a certain respect, but I regret not doing my own work.
If I revisit Duo in the future, it'll either be because I feel nostalgic or because I have an idea for him. He's not really as big a part of my life as he used to be as a favorite character but he's still there. I do still like him.
And hell, maybe someone will pay me to draw him, I'll probably draw him sooner that way. /shameless shill

Honestly, all Gundam Pilots in the Wing are best bois, each of them in their own way. I have been rewatching Gundam Wing fairly recently. Such a good show.

I haven't watched it in a while but I have a pretty good set of riffs for the first episode.

Love Sketchup / LiveHome 3D for stuff like this. It perspective. Also, definitely helps to see things in the right perspective. Also, just love seeing one of my favorite boys with one of my favorite gundams!

It's easy to just fall into the habit of fanart and fanfic, isn't it? You've got pre-made characters, a backstory/world pre-made to depict, it's simple to just plug it in and make something quick and easy that will get you a lot of attention because there's other people that are already into that character/world that will read or look at anything that has that character in it.
At the same time, you can also consider it less as procrastination or wasted time as time put in practicing. As you created fanart, you also developed your skills. You learned how to do things that you might not have otherwise known how to do in trying to get something to work. And in doing RP, you were able to explore situations that you might not have encountered in real life, and figure out stuff in a safe, sociable way that let you enjoy something you love with people that also love it. That has its own value and benefits.
Now, it sounds like you have gained the skills and the confidence to do something more original. Go forth and create something new!

Basically, but I didnt really do fanart. I had someone else do it for me. I dont regret it completely because I learned to color but... it kinda was a crutch.
