Description
In the center of a town, a crowd gathered. Cheering villagers who awaited the return of the scout regiment. Once they appeared, the cheers only grew louder, echoing off the pavement an walls of the nearby houses. You as well as Nicolei had to push your way through the crowd to see the soldiers whom had returned.

Nicolei stood beside you, crossing his arms and sighing while you dreamily watched, though you frowned at the sight of so many soldiers returning that were injured but even more at the soldiers that didn't return. You looked up at Nicolei who was shaking his head, sliver locks swaying. You knew he wasn't a big fan of the scouts, he never saw a point. What was the point of them risking their lives outside of the walls when they could just stay safe within them?

Nicolei looked over at you and shrugged. "Had your fill?"he asked. You nodded slowly and glanced down. You didn't want to see anymore wounded soldiers. The crowds cheers had also changed into morbid sobbing around you yet you didn't even notice. A woman crying, clutching the last remaining body part of her son who had died fighting the titans was the loudest.

You glanced over at her and suddenly you were reminded. Reminded of how cruel the world you actually lived in was. How frightening it was. Nicolei placed a hand around your shoulder and motioned you away from the crowd and away from the crying woman.

When the two of you managed to push your way out of the crowd, you glance up and see a man in the Scout regiment looking over at you. His eyes looked tired but his gaze was too much alive on you. His hair was black and short, falling just above his ears while the rest of his hair was shaved. You recognized this man to be Levi.

He was a praised member of the scout regiment. A sergeant in fact but why was somebody that high up, staring so intently on you? No, the glare wasn't for you. It was for Nicolei who was walking beside you but why? Did the two know each other or something? However, the gaze didn't last long.

Levi was soon riding away with the regiment while you and Nicolei walked home. You didn't tell him about the gaze of course. You figure that maybe Levi was one of those guys who were always glaring for no particular reason.

As the two of you walked, you decided to break the ice with Nicolei.

"So Nicolei…I uh.."You began but Nicolei shushed you. He stopped in his tracks and looked around.

"Did you feel that?"he asked. You shook your head. You felt nothing but maybe that was Nicolei's way of telling you he didn't wish to talk. However, you suddenly felt it after another minute. A rumble, no. A quake. A mighty quake that shook the ground. You would have fallen over if Nicolei weren't there to catch you.

"What's going on?"you ask. Nicolei shrugged and helped you back up.

"Don't know.."he responded bluntly. The two of you looked around but suddenly your eyes were drawn to something. A red hand placed atop of the wall. The wall that kept the titans out. Nicolei gasped and you covered your mouth in shock. Then..a head..a head appeared. A head of a titan appeared and peered over the wall and only mere seconds afterwards did it happen..

The wall…The wall that kept you in and the titans out. The wall that stood for more than 100 years. The wall that was suppose to be your protection…was broken. Penetrated. A large hole now left where the titan had made it's entry. It was only seconds afterwards where you saw the first titan, smaller than the one who peered over the wall, walk through.

It wore the skin of a human but it was different. Clearly a monster with a wide grin. It's giant eyes glanced over the town as if looking for something.

"Nicolei..is that…"

"A titan..shit. Run!"You felt Nicolei grasp your wrist tightly and pull you in the opposite direction in which the titans were coming from. It wasn't long before you heard the screams. The screams of frantic villagers, children crying, and the agony of those who couldn't get away from the titans. You looked back only to see one of the beasts raising an elderly woman to it's mouth. Her screams echoed loudly before cracking..then silence as her blood splattered.

Nicolei looked over at you and pulled you close. "______ don't look bad! We gotta get Thorn and get the hell out of here!"he instructs but you couldn't say anything. You were in shock.

Titans were all around you, killing any human they found regardless of age. You wanted to scream. You wanted to cry. You wanted to vomit but your body was too shaken up and stiff to do any of that. However, that wasn't the case for Nicolei who was practically dragging you.

His golden eyes focused straight ahead. His mind focused straight on reaching his home where his brother was. Please be okay Thorn. Please be okay!

Nicolei pulled you around the corner and sighed in relief when he saw his house still standing where he had left it. "Thorn!"He ran towards the house, still holding on to you. The force he used to open the door nearly flew it off it's hinges. Inside, the two of you were greeted by a trembling Thorn who was just as relieved to see you both.

"Nicolei! ________! I thought the titans got you!"He said. Nicolei shook his head and grasped Thorn's wrist just like he had yours. He pulled the two of you out of the house and back down the pavement.

However..things went from bad to worse no sooner than Thorn joined the two of you. The loud stomping behind the three of you was all you needed to hear to now that you had been targeted. You looked over your shoulder and saw a large titan chasing after you, it's arms extended to grasp it's and it's mouth open to eat.

"N-Nicolei…"you whimpered.

"I know. Don't look back at it _____!"Nicolei instructed but how could you not look? It was a monster coming for you and you knew what it did when it got it's hands on you and it was gaining feet.

"Nicolei!"you shouted again. He grunted.

"I know! Just run!!"he yelled. You tried to run but the titan's eyes were drawing you in. It was if looking in the face of death. Your death. You were too busy looking at the titan that you tripped. That one simple mistake of not looking were you where going caused you a life. But not your life. No..somebody else's.

You tripped and fell to the ground, landing on your back. Your wrist slipped from Nicolei's hold just as he and Thorn looked bad at you. Time seemed to slow at that point. The titan kneeled down to reach for your trembling helpless figure. Nicolei rushing to help you as well as Thorn.

You closed your eyes tightly, knowing your life was over. But alas, you were not grabbed by the titan. Instead, you open your eyes to find Thorn in front of you and now tightly within the fist of the titan. You gasped as well as Nicolei as you watched blood seep from Thorn's mouth as he was nearly crushed.

"Thorn..Thorn!"Nicolei screamed and latched onto the fist of the titan just as it was lifting Thorn to it's mouth. Nicolei punched at it's hand, trying to get it to let go but his assault did nothing. Thorn lifted his head to his brother and grasped his hand. His gold eyes matching Nicolei's own that threatened to spill tears.

"Nicolei..go…"Thorn murmured. Nicolei shook his head.

"I won't leave you!"

"Nicolei you have to go! Get _______ out of here!"Thorn shouted. He looked back at the titan's who's mouth was open ready to devour them both. He looked back at his brother then at their locked hands, the only thing keeping them together. His eyes met Nicolei's once more, his own spilling tears that dropped onto his brother's cheeks.

His other hand reached fro their joined ones and began to pry them apart. Nicolei shook his head.

"Thorn don't! Stop!"But his younger brother ignore his please.

"I'm sorry Nicolei…but you have to go.."Thorn whispered as he pried the two apart. Nicolei fell back, his arm his reaching for his brother's outstretched hand. He crashed back first against the pavement and watched helplessly as you did while the titan brought Thorn to his mouth.

"No..No! You bastard! Put him down! Take me instead!"Nicolei shouted, tears streaming from his eyes. He couldn't. He couldn't lose his little brother, the only family he had left. But he wasn't strong enough to do anything about it. He was just a mere human. Forced to watch his sibling enter the jaws of a titan. Hear his fearful screams and the sickening cracks of his bones bending and breaking as he was bitten down on. Like a piece of fruit.

You couldn't watch as the boy was eaten right before you and his brother. His blood splattered everywhere, most if it raining down upon his shocked brother who sat there on his knees. His silver hair being dyed red by his own brother's blood. He couldn't believe it. In one second he had lost the person who meant the most to him. The one he strived to protect, was gone.

He waited for the titan to eat him next, but it didn't. It showed no interest in Nicolei once so ever. Not even you interested it. The monster turned and walked away, it's mouth dripping with Thorn's freshly spilled blood. Tears were in your eyes as well but you couldn't bring yourself to say anything to Nicolei. It as your fault after all. If only you had looked ahead, Thorn wouldn't have had to jump in front of you.

He should have left you there. He should have let you died instead of taking your place. Why would he do that for you? You fell to your knees as well and covered your mouth, trying to muffle your sobs. It was your fault. Your fault.

Nicolei slammed his fists against the ground and screamed loudly. He didn't care if he got the attention of other titans. He didn't care if they devoured him whole. In his eyes, he saw no point in living without his brother.

"______….you should go.."He said. You look at Nicolei and shook your head.

"Nicolei! I won't leave you!"you cried.

"I said go!!"Nicolei looked over his shoulder at you, his golden teary eyes burning with hatred but for whom? The titans…or you? You looked down, your eyes still flooding with tears.

"Nicolei..I..I can't….What am I going to do without you?!" Nicolei stood and glared at you.

"I don't give a shit what you do as long as you live. Get out of here _______!!"he shouted, giving you a shove. You could hear his voice cracking with every word. Of course he hated this but how could he help you live with no will to live of his own?

Levi stared at the scene below. His cold eyes watching as a boy with silver hair watched his own brother get eaten alive by a titan and then carelessly discarded. He could have stopped it..but there was an issue with that. He glanced down at the girl with the boy. Her. She was the problem. Levi had never felt it before, but he felt a strange attraction to this girl. He couldn't deny the light flutter he felt in his chest when she locked eyes with him earlier.

However, he clenched his teeth when he heard the other boy shout at her to leave and shove her. How could he be so cruel to leave her in this world alone? He would just abandon her now? He growled.

"Tch, pathetic.."he grumbled before jumping down and landing between the two. His cold grey eyes glared at the boy before glancing over at the girl.

"Y-you're…Sergeant Levi…"she said quietly. Levi nodded with a grunt and looked back at Nicolei who was staring at the ground.

"I heard everything….Nicolei is it?"he asked. Nicolei looked up at Levi. "If you're going to cry about every person that dies then you should lay down and die right here. Giving up and leaving this girl to fend for herself is a cruel thing to do. Titans have flooded the city and your brother was eaten. That's a fact you have to accept, are you going to let the same thing happen to her?"

Nicolei looked over at you then back at Levi. "It's her fault this happened.."he said coldly. At that moment you felt a stake just burn through your heart at Nicolei's words. He hated you.. Of course he did. You were the cause of his brother's death.

"Tch..pathetic.."Levi spat again before picking you up. You struggled against him. No matter how much Nicolei hated you now, you loved him. He was your best friend, you couldn't leave him there to die.

"Nicolei no! Come with us, please!"you begged but Nicolei said nothing. Levi took that as his cue to leave. He slung you over his shoulder before jumping high and dashing away with the help of his 3D maneuver gear. You watched Nicolei the whole time as you drew further and further from him, your hand still outstretched and reaching for him.

"Nicolei!!"you cried. You banged your fists against Levi's back. How could he leave him? How could he consider himself a soldier by leaving Nicolei behind? Why did this all have to happen? Why did Thorn have to die because of you?
