Description
elysian shadows on kickstarter, by the way: www.kickstarter.com/projects/1…It took me two weeks to develop, but it's finally semi-done. Pixelart that reacts dynamically to lighting within game engine. It makes use of normal map as well as AO for now as well as makes use of a custom shader. More here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQCQd0…
Still wip and things are to change, but it shows good direction to go towards

I have been following development videos for this game for a few months now - needless to say I am impressed with the amount of work put into this game.
Cheers on the successful kickstarter. Much deserved funding!

Impressive I've seen stuff like this before, and am still wowed each time I see them.
Out of curiosity, and as a pixel artist, I have a question. How does the color count change with the lighting? And how is the palette affected?
Hmm, well, I guess that's two questions, but oh well

the base colour count of the diffuse map is 4, but when it gets rendered it's basically true colour.
We're also using custom shaders that actually automatically does a hue shift as the luminosity changes (so it's not just the same colour getting brighter/barker).

Ah, sounds neat Hmm, are there any systems that don't render the image into true colour and work within the palette only? Or would that be pretty much impossible?

You can work with the palette only - it's one of the options in spritelamp, so you could definitely achieve it on any given game engine provided you can modify the shaders.
It's not worth it for the game though. We're going to have multi-coloured light sources, spell effects and god knows what so I'd have to design and code every single hue possibility for every single colour on the map... Not worth it.

Ah yeah, I can see how it would be a problem with that many combinations. Anywho, enough babbling from me again, awesome work

Actually painted the normal map by hand. Spritelamp is just for testing
