Description
So I'm back from Italy and I'm offically not sick anymore. And what do one do when one is back from ones vacation, is not sick, feels like drawing something but can't think of something spesific? You do something utterly random about a guy being chased by mutant red dog things in another universe through arches inspired by a painting you saw in a renaissance exebition. ... yup.
Never like doing random stuff since I usually can't expand on it, but it was a fun exercise. Might do it more often.

Because I'm making a game. Still might consider other options once it's completed though.

This guy's expression totally matches the title! The fish eye perspective is brilliant. The guy has cool hair and cool clothes. The Jet-engined blimp is awesome! The orange furry creatures are frightening but not so much so that they are unattractive. 'Very imaginative piece, with nice lighting and an uplifting color palette!

I love art that I can put a story to. Especially, weird stories like this. The freedom to interprete the story in your drawing is awsome. I'm still working on that skill myself. Excellent job.

I know I described them as mutated dogs, but really, I have no idea what they are. Guy needed to be chased by something big with teeth: these things emerged. Works for me :9

Wow!!
This is amazing, i really love the perspective effect on this piece, and the color scheme and shading are just beautiful "not too cartooney, not too realistic", just like the professional illustrations of famous folk tale books out there
Great job!!

Interesting how many opinions I get on something that is essentially a doodle. A very detailed and complete doodle, but still a doodle. A hyper-doodle if you will. There's no real backstory, but I'm trying to make people put their own ideas into what's going on here.
I did actually try making an illustation of a foktale here some time ago come to think of it. There's something I like about playfull realism (I suppose abstraction is a better word.) Being able to abstract requires knowledge of the real thing, so I can respect that. Also makes for some nice shapes. :9

sarahassan In reply to Imson [2008-02-15 21:34:37 +0000 UTC]
Doodles sometimes get more interesting results 'cause of the tension free mood "no deadline and no specific requirements" and just letting your imagination roam free
I like that "playful realism" expression, and I agree; the best abstract pieces are done better with references - against popular belief that thinks only realism requires that!

Imson In reply to bronzechild [2008-02-13 13:07:28 +0000 UTC]
If you're referring to the Chinese nine tail fox, or the Japanese 'Kitsune' that Naruto is based around, I don't see much in the way of a resemblence apart from maybe a somewhat orange tint. Though, the foxes are often illustrated as somewhat cream coloured. (As for Naruto, I don't want to associate myself with it.)
Though, they don't look much like mutated dogs either, so... Bah! They're things and they are attacking this guy. That's the important thing!

Yes, I was referring more on his fox form. But no need to ostracize poor Naru, now. O:
Dogs have bigger grins and longer 'snouts'... and they are cute. hihi.

What can I say? It's a great action piece. I love it. FAVORITE!

Imson In reply to Pancakes-of-doom [2007-10-19 11:11:35 +0000 UTC]
Well, it was meant to be awesome with a hint of humor. Mission complete :9 The title came up when I had finished the guy's face. It was more or less written all over it.
Is that an A.D.D pun in there? Keep thinking it is. Though I suppose people being chased by mutants are fairly hyperactive. O_o

... That... is fantastic. XD Great sense of movement and weight here (especially in the enormous dog!beast in the lower background). I can almost feel the earth shaking under my feet when I think of being chased by those things.
And I love the guy's expression too, but then I'm a sucker for good facial experssions.
I'm favin this!

Imson In reply to Rynnay [2007-10-04 08:58:51 +0000 UTC]
Didn't really have weight spesifcially in mind when I did this. Mostly on perspective and lighting. But hey, more credit for me :9
The expression though, that was very planned. It's one of the first times I've ever used a mirror actively while I painted to check the details. Since I was intentionally trying to have a *slightly* more realistic rendering, a believeble face was a must. Suppose this means he has some of my features, though I've done my best to avoid that :\ (I take pride in not using reference...)

Interestingly awesome: Better than regular awesome. It is also an irregular sidestep from the common version of awesome and therefore a mutation. With sucsessive generations it will most definitely outlive it's inferior cousins. And thus spawned a new kind of awesome. One with the asset of interesting. But how will it survive the age of the dinosaurs?
π: 0 β©: 1
akaethan In reply to Imson [2007-09-28 16:42:54 +0000 UTC]
Most likely it will survive in a small pocket somewhere out in the world, used in rarity. Though with me it will be used whenever it makes its way to an image worth mentioning it on. The two words will sit in my box of magnetic compliments until the day comes that I take out the box, reach in and pull two out, throw them at the fridge and see exactly what the duel worded compliment of the day will be. Maybe I might even be daring and try throwing a third word in there too, only if it sounds right.

Dang. If this isn't dynamic; I don't know what is.
I love your method of shading, the warm gray gives this a really nice tone. I can't say much in terms of improvement, you're too good xD (I'm also an amateur artist/critique, so that doesn't help any, huh?)
Still, I give you thumbs up and I love your blimp pirate.
