Description So I'm back from Italy and I'm offically not sick anymore. And what do one do when one is back from ones vacation, is not sick, feels like drawing something but can't think of something spesific?

You do something utterly random about a guy being chased by mutant red dog things in another universe through arches inspired by a painting you saw in a renaissance exebition. ... yup.

Never like doing random stuff since I usually can't expand on it, but it was a fun exercise. Might do it more often.

So if I were to say, hypothetically, that it wasn't, you would run around in a state of utter confusion? Tempting... tempting....

I've usually used blue shades, so I spesifically tried to counter that. It's nice that people notice what I've done differently.

And yes: Blimp pirates own your scurvy. :9

Utter confusion for you includes attacks by rabid mutant animals? ... brilliant!

It's not really that I'm busy, the problem is finding something to write. Just saying 'Thank you' to everything seems inpersonal. Can't always improvise on the spot. :\

Seems people pay no mind to Air-pirates. Pity, everybody needs to get a blimp. ('cos blimps are pretty pimp ~)

The idea is actually that the pirates are controlling all the critters here. Was planning on having some jumping from the balloon, but it messed up the composition. Ah well, it was just random anyway.

My goodness. That is pretty crazy! I hope the guy makes it. I would imagine he would have to pick up some kind of super weapon on the way. Otherwise he will have a hard time. I sure don't wanna be in his skin.
I was just on vacation in the Netherlands and went to the M.C. Escher museum and the kind of randomness in this picture strongly reminds me of some of the picture of his. Especially the arches.
Anyway. Good work, man.

Imson In reply to kentriodon [2007-08-22 23:03:17 +0000 UTC]

I reckon the lady with the musket will provide coverfire, given that she has enough bullets for two mutants, a set of dragons and possibly an army of air-pirates.

Escher? I suppose so. He did love the the fisheye perspective (or general distortion for that matter ) The picture I got the inspiration for the arches from was depicting a scene from the greek legends. I thought the overgrown ruins looked like a great set, so I threw it into some random scribblings.

Did you manage to check out the Van Gogh exebition while you were there? Fun stuff.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kentriodon In reply to Imson [2007-08-23 10:34:07 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... no I didn't. I reckoned I saw enough of Van Gogh in the Orsay museum in Paris. And I'm not particularly fond of his paintings. I went to the Mauritshuis in The Hague however. There you can find a lot of realism pictures by Rembrandt, Rubens and Vermeer and also less known Dutch painters. I think there were very few paintings in there that I didn't like.

I think I should try out the fish eye perspective. It sure looks like fun and not too easy for that matter. I really admire people who are able to do it so masterfully! Kudos to you!
And Greece... hmm... haven't been to Greece in a while...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Imson In reply to kentriodon [2007-08-27 22:01:02 +0000 UTC]

Gogh has a lot of bad paintings and is probably more known for his madness rather than his art, but I find some of his work interesting, at least enough for an exebition. I have a lot of respect for the realistic painters. Rembrandt has some exelent paintings, and I still need to crack Rubens tecniques. Caught some displays of old renaissance paintings in Italy, another thing I need to take a swing at sometime :9

Love using shifted perspectives. Gives good training on forshortning and landscape building.

Hmm... Greece. One of the few countries I haven't visited on this continent. Need to fix that :\

Might not make sense, but then it's not supposed to. Take Mario for instance: "You're this plumber guy that saves princesses. Look, an enemy! Jump on his head! Why? Because that's what you do! Never mind that it's an overgrown evil walking mushroom, he's going to kill you! Good. Now slam your head into some bricks, eat the appairantly poisonous mushroom... no, not like the one that you killed, and then get yourself sucked into a giant green drainpipe and collect the coins that defy gravity."

Simply put: Awesome.

The characters were outlined with some very rough and thick lines and later ajusted proportionally and such. The background was sketched down in solids with the general colours I would use. The purpose was just to get the perspective and composition. If it looked dull, I would have tried something else.

Pixels are awesome, y0! XDDDD They once had leather necklaces on [link] with giant pixels of would-be expensive jewelry printed on them. XDD I SO would've bought that.

Yeah, I know. u_u I looked at an old Commodore exhibited on this year's CeBit in Hanover and felt a kind of phantom melancholy. XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Imson In reply to leelakin [2007-08-16 21:36:33 +0000 UTC]

They sell tons of stuff like that. Necklaces, glassframes, a canvas you can arrange your own pixels on. Used to have those beads you could assemble and iron out as a pixel piece. And of course, the stickers. Some people in my city recently went amok and put '?' boxes, Link, Mario and super mushrooms over the entire town as well as another town the same night. Was great walking around and spotting all the characters right outside my workplace. 8D

Since I work with pixels, I always get questions about why I bother. Guess I can't please everybody :\

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

leelakin In reply to Imson [2007-08-17 05:25:04 +0000 UTC]

Damn, why don't they sell that stuff HERE? D: Or ...anywhere in Germany? I can't remember ever having seen a proper Pixel stuffs store. T_T And street art like that ROCKS O_O I've been wanting to do something street art-y for a long time, but I don't have any adventurous art friends around here and it would be kinda unfunny doing that alone. XD
I tried to order those magnificent Nintendo Mario Bros. pixel key chains off dirtymicrobe.com (and the little lucky gold poo things, hehe), but somehow they never replied to my order mail even though I've ordered there before... o_O (so either they've moved out or they regret giving me that 25% off everything coupon they sent along last time XD)

Heck yeah, I just checked your journal! You're a professional! *gasp* XDDD Should've known though, better not waste that talent ;O So, what exactly are you? Like a freelance pixel~ designer? Do you study alongside? 0_0 The only *real* job I had so far was in the one year between school and university when I worked for a German TV channel as an online editor XDDD That was more of a journalism/graphics/organizing thing though. Now that I'm at university I earn extra money with commissions, but it's not as potentially satisfying as some freelance design projects I guess. I think it would be awesome to work for guys like [link] or~ O_O I don't know. Do you have any plans for your career? XDDD *likes to inquire people about their visions*
And why would people ask why you bother pixels? o_O *confused* Well, why would THEY bother with a comfortable bed, tasty food or colourful clothing? IT'S FOR THE SOUL! *shakes head at people*

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Imson In reply to leelakin [2007-08-18 16:05:20 +0000 UTC]

They don't sell much of that here, that's why you have the internets. If I were to pull one of those stunts, it would have to be the '?' box stunt. Basically make a '?' box, hang it up in public and watch people scratch their heads in confusion. Pretty fun. Though there was that time when it was placed outside a church in the US. They called the bomb squad :\

Ehrm... I don't like to think of myself as a professional. I always link it to being an expert, and I'm really not But yeah, I've worked on some games. I actually do two jobs. General artist for an advertisement company, and freelance pixel and game design. The first one is actually my first real job, oddly enough. So it's storyboards and illustrations all day, and maybe some freelance pixeling when I get home. Not sure what I'm going to do next though. Can't stick around making ads because it's not really what I'm interested in. Working for Nintendo or something would be great, but in what way? If I do art, I'll probably only do certain types of art, and pixels are even more limiting that way as there's a smaller market now. I'd just be taking orders and hopefully make the best version of someone elses vision. If I apply for director, I'll be making the ideas and all, but I wouldn't be drawing. :\ I've considered doing comics, but that's even harder making a living at. At the moment though, I just make games on my spare time. *complete control!*

People usually think less of pixels because things can be made faster and better in other mediums. However, what I try to explain is that pixel-art is a medium that gives a destinct artistic feel that it's not possible to duplicate with other artforms. The reason many people support "pure pixels", as in no gradients, detailed edititing and controll over each pixlel, limited palettes and so on, is because this is (for the most part) the best way to express the medium. And besides, I love fiddling with it. :9

Man this column is getting long. D8

Sorry for the late reply, I was pretty busy in the past weeks @_@ (busy being half comatose, hahaha XDDD *had 3 wisdom teeth pulled*)

Ooooooooh, do you have any advice which online stores are best for Nintendo merchandise and the like? I had a look via google yesterday and the search wasn't all that fruitful. @_@ I did buy a little 'shroom LED lamp for a friend though, so cute XDDD but that page didn't have any other good Nintendo stuff. And the page that had those awesome keyrings, dirtymicrobe.com, actually went down or something. X_x WOE!1

Well, from my super-amateur point of view, it looks pretty professional! XDDD But yeah, I know what you mean by working for big companies and stuff. @_@ When I was younger, I thought working for Disney as an animator would be the non plus ultra, but now I don't see it as attractive anymore, since most people end up in the endless assembly line animation progress anyway. Sure, character design would be sort of awesome, but... the chances of getting there are slim (and you still can't influence any other aspects).
I guess if you want to be able to do everything, you have to have to be the creative head honcho of some big company yourself and still have enough time to do "lesser" work XDD I guess that's really rare.

Yeah o_O I have a great respect for pixel artists, since pixel work takes so FRIGGIN long! It's not like a "normal" pic where you can smudge or use soft shading or ...I dunno, kind of hide your mistakes a little. XDD I with pixels it's either yes or no, colour that little square or don't... it drove me insane many times. XDDDDD

I'm actually surprised you came back and answered. Guess I've gotten too used to the idea that people have the attentionspan of goldfish. (metaphorically of course, it's proven goldfish do have longtime memory )

Don't know that many stores sadly. If I did, I'd be swimming in useless (yet awesome) junk. The common ones like thinkgeek don't have that much of interest. I could go searching the japaniese sites... but I won't. Those thing are evil. 8l

Just remembered that I came over that golden poo thing you mentioned. Though, I think I'll stick to my 1up t-shirt.

I suppose the best job alternative I've found so far is freelancing. Haven't ventured that far in it yet, but I'd at least have some variation and choice. Drawback is of course that I'm not in charge of the projects and... of course, that I'm not all that good with new places :\ Meh. A lot of artists start of wanting to draw for Disney or some comicbook publisher, but I reckon you have to aim for something those companies can't, or won't do. Something better :9

Pixels don't really take much longer than other mediums. It just depends on how you use it. But it is a *very* limiting medium that requires you to learn techiques for every single pixel you place in order to utilise the space given. In a way, that's what I love about it. It's basic nature na the level of control. ...well, that and my love for games :9

Welllll my short term memory is pretty bad, but as long as I still have comments that I want to reply to in my message center, it's all good. XD

Aw, that's too bad. D8 Damn, and I bet there's the store of my dreams (you know, one that doesn't charge about $70 for shipping stuff to Europe either) somewhere hidden in the intarwebs and I cannot find it! Maybe I should've started learning Japanese instead of Chinese. @_@ (then again, isn't all cheap stuff produced in China, like merchandise?... hm. I'm intrigued.)

Yeah, I guess freelancing is pretty cool @_@ It all has its advantages and disadvantages. Another thing I really liked was this tv channel job I did for about a year right after school (I was very lucky to receive such an opportunity at my age @-O). It was really exciting and there was a lot of different things to do and I had much freedom/responsibility in projects. That's why I started studying Media Studies in the first place! Media (especially tv business) is something I can definitely associate myself with.

Pixels probably just take ME longer than other mediums XDDD I'm distracted very quickly, so concentrating is difficult for me. @_@ (that's why I post a lot of those sketch dumps, it takes me an enormous amount of willpower to finish a full-blown pic XD;;;;; )
Painter looks like people can do amazing things with it O_o! I always see those painter drawings and think whoaaaaa... I really like the brush strokes you can do with it. But I downloaded it like 2 years ago and it drove me crazy XDDD so many layer configurations and it didn't let me draw on certain layers and blargh~ maybe I should try it again later. XD

There are so many people that want to be Japaniese for ridiculous reasons already, so I hardly think it's a bad thing to be studying one of the larges languages in the world. (It's still up in the air which is the biggest as english might be used a lot in other ways than just as your first language. *shrug*) Would be nice to learn japaniese just to work at Nintendo's japan studio, or pray to Miyamoto in a language he understands. Not that it's in any way less retarded...

Media business? As in... editing... clip management or... getting coffee? Making short clips maybe? Animation? There's a very large chunk of the whole media business I really can't stand, but that's mostly because I know how people exploit it and get exploited. Hope you're on the safe road :\

I've seen some pretty amazing painter pieces. Used the program a short while, but I found that photoshop worked better for me because of it's glorious layers :9 Painter has some very fancy brushes, so in many cases you can get away with fancy skribblings and effects instead of using actual skill. Though, this goes for photoshop too sometimes, it's more obvious.

Guess I like the look of pixels. I even mostly prefer not having anti-aliasing in games. Gives it a more desinct feel I guess.

Lol, the Wapanese! (I got that word from [link] , that wiki is like a satirical listing of everything that's wrong online... funny as hell if you can ignore the pr0n XD)
I still have those Japanese self-learning books laying around here somewhere... not that I ever learned more than 2 chapters. XD It would be confusing now, though, because Japanese use a lot of Chinese symbols, yet name them differently and stuff. (at least that's my excuse)

A lot of things! XD I was basically an online editor, which means I did pages, could decide about the integration of videos, movie reviews, or maybe special projects for upcoming movies and the like. I also televised the integration of mobile phone features like ringtones and games into the tv programme (damn, those idiotic adverts are my fault as well XD)... and I dunno, big projects with all kinds of responsibility. I took over for my "mentor" there who was gone for some months and left me in his position, so I didn't have to do stuff like getting coffee for people or so, I was a fully integrated member of the group and never felt like a lower employee or anything... although I was over 10 years younger than the youngest of them. 8D;
Contrary to popular belief, the tv channel was a very pleasant work place (that might be because all online editors were geeks and nerds, yay for them)

The only thing I ever managed to do in Painter and liked were blood drops. XDDDDDDDD

Encyclopedia Dramatica. A.K.A: The sludge from 4chan put into articles <_> Some of the stuff is pretty damn funny, but every time I've been stupid enough to go to 4chan I feel like I need to wash myself.

The Japaniese expanded and borrowed a lot from the Chinese. The writing, it's martial arts, the architecture and even made it's own version of the then dominant religion, so I'd say that's a pretty valid excuse. Still won't make you learn the language though

The Wapaniese has hit pretty hard around thiese parts lately. Thankfully, our population and our comic-cons are not big enough to be spread as an epedemic. ... yet 8\

Ah, so you more or less do/did the kind of work the people in the nextdoor office do. Not my kind of job, but good if it works out for you. Most of the people here are nerds too, or try to act like they're not. I've only worked here a year and I'm more or less a fullwothy member of the team. I've been handling the same responsibillities as the the rest (You'd think I'd start wondering about my paycheck soon, hahahaha!)

Yeah. Painter is the king of splatter things. If that's a title you'd want to have that is O_o

I've visited 4chan briefly last week, and urgh XDDD it was a bit much for me. I like encyclopedia dramatica better because it's much easier to handle (and not to look at certain things), it's pretty valuable regarding documentation of the 'internet youth' in a way, but at 4chan it just jumps at you unconTROLLably. XD;

Yeah, as far as I understood that from my Chinese teacher, China doesn't even really see Japan as a separate country o_O (but then again China claims a lot of countries, including Tibet DDDDD: )

Yeah, it isn't too big either. @_@ I think we do have some sort of larger comic con once a year, but it's further down south and a site called animexx.de, but the cosplayers are pretty non-existent outside of that con. XD I know a lot of people that are anime/manga fans though, and general Japan-enthusiasts (I mean, I'd like to visit Japan too XDDD but it's not llike OMGKAWAII I NEED TO MOVE TO HARAJUKU). I dunno... I could never warm up to anime. @-o I'm aware that there are well drawn ones, but generally the style and the majority of the stories (often very very vague spirit/demon stuff that a European without Asian spiritual bg probably can't appreciate or put into context) don't do anything for me.

A friend of mine recently visited Tokyo and took a lot of pics, it looks amazing! Definitely on my "to go" list, but then again, almost every country is XDDDD

4chan stuff is everywhere. Longcat, lolcats, Orly etc. It's kind of amazing how a breedingpot of all things stupid can conquer the world like that. Scary thought...

China and Japan is a mixed bucket. Japan does not admit it killed thousands of Chiniese (and other asians) during the war(s), and China is hostile towards Japan. Of course, the whole "communists" and "helping North Korea" debate keeps tentions a little edgy. Don't think I'll dive any deeper into the subject. I'm not going to pretend I know what's going on. :\

Wait. Animex? I was at a convention in Middlesburough, England last year with that name. That was an animation festival held by a university though, nothing to do with animΓ©. The closest I've ever been to cosplaying is attending a parade in a Darth Vader costume to promote the comic-con I've been working for for a few years. It's for anyone that's awake at that hour, you're just given a random costume from the storage they have. I can't really see myself prancing around in homemade spandex shorts, dye my hair, make plastic swords and pose for photos. Not... really my thing... <_>

Most animΓ©s that go international are about fighting, or rather, 25 minutes of thinking and drama and then some fighting. Mostly, the unnesesarry thinking, stillshots and endless grunting to tame respones turn me away from animΓ©s in general. There are few inteligent series that I've found (though... I'm not really looking). Death Note in manga version for example, is pretty well written and all the thinking and pauses sort of make sense (but then...it's on paper.) I came across the animΓ© a short while ago and it all just got too silly because of the grunts and all (or maybe it was because it was dubbed to english and sounded terrible, who knows.) The less thorough, sarturday morning animΓ©-type shows just annoy me. Everything is the same steriotype, you can't tell the characters gender before they speak, and the plots are generally the same. Not that Western equivalents are any better, but they're staring to copy animΓ© anyway. 9_9

Howls moving castle, Steamboy and Ghost in the Shell shows that there's another side though. .. thankfully.

I've been to Tokyo. You could go there if you find tall bulidings and the japaniese stores interesting, but if you're going there, make sure you visit Nara. A place filled with ancient tempels, placed in a park where deer roam free together with the people that come there. You could also try and pull yourself through a hole in a log to get enlightenment (yeah...). Appairantly, when you're thin as a stick, enlightenment is easy to obtain. Can't say I feel any different *shrug*. If you're staying in Kyoto, it's a quick trip by train.

Not really that many sites in Japan, I just enjoy how everything is done differently. That goes for the rest of asia too though. :9

Man I'm babbling <_>

HAPPY NYUU YEAR!

Yeah, me either. D8 But at least they've only got some (still?) relatively harmless conflicts going on, none of that let's-blow-each-other-up sort of stuff, which really happens enough these days (even in Sri Lanka today /: )

I don't think they're related in any way, the German thing is written with 2 xx's and they do their own cons. XD If you get paid for it, it's not cosplay! XDDD It's amazing how much time, money and detail they put into those costumes. o_O But seriously, all they ever do at these cons (apart from buying mangas and anime merchandise) is taking pictures or posing for pictures. It's a bit weird, but then again who am I to judge with my other fandom obsessions. 8D;

AGHHHHHH I know, I hate stillshots. T_T Or when they're actually moving, but only the legs or only the mouth, not synched and in a completely unnatural way. D: (not to mention all the exaggeration and blinking lights and weird signs) whenever someone yawns/jumps/shouts/does anything XDD)
I think Disney's W*I*T*C*H (or however the hell they like to spell it XD) is even worse than those though, because WHYYYYYYY are they trying to imitate anime? They're friggin DISNEY, they could, I dunno, DO SOMETHING THAT LOOKS GOOD. Instead they created this crippled mutant that's neither their style, nor anime. @_@; They kinda just made the characters lankier, added awkward edges to their hair and face and made them do Sailormoon-y transformation stuff. *shudders*

I thought Howl's moving Castle was quite good, as was Princess Mononoke... but still, it's not like I got euphoric over them or anything. I problably wouldn't watch them again, I guess anime is just not my kind of entertainment *shrug*

I think traditional Japan interests me more than pop culture Japan XDD (though all of their little doohickeys on keychains and weird vending machines are fascinating, I need to see them as well XD).
There are so many rituals and interesting architecture... I also love the food culture! All those very subtle combinations, which you eat not to get rid of the hunger but to somehow gain a new experience 8D

Yay foo nuu yaar! Also known as: "the ceremony where you increase the pervious number by one and prepare for a whole new set of problems untill you have to add another one"

Most of the stuff around China is censored or not published due to lack of interest, so I hardly know anything about what's going on. Well, I know more about it than I do about southern Asia and the Middle east, but then, that's not really a positive thing either... I have a friend in China, I've even been in China, but since I didn't have the time to go outside Beijing, I'd say I know next to nothing. It's not like I'm going to start descussing politics with passersby, not to mention I've never really been interested in politics in the first place. Bah! I need a second trip...

Oooh! Two X's. That's like... twise the X-ness.

Payed? I don't get payed! It would be a nice deal, but sadly, that's not the case. The whole show is run by volunteers. We do it mostly as a chance to meet the greats. (heck we dine with the people every day of the festival) and it's fun. It's also one of the only times all my friends are gathered in one place, so it's all good.

Yeah, I've seen some crazy ammount of effort being put into some costumes. Though it's better that they're well made than just people showing up in cardboard-cutouts and a wig (as some do). I wouldn't mind having a real sword made for me or something like that, but I wouldn't pose with it. I've never seen a con full of cosplayers, so I wouldn't know, but I suppose it's sort of the same thing people do at parties. Take endless amounts of pictures of you and your friends (which I still can't understand why people do, but never mind.) I suppose cons are an excuse to dress up and take more pictures, only now it's part of a contest of who's got the best costume. I don't know *shrug*

Stillshots, jumps, shouts and general oddities in animation is the result of animators wanting to save time and money while still having a lot of detail. They found that if they used the mouth as a cut-out hole and neglected mouth-movement, they could avoid redrawing a lot of the talking. Not matching the words also helped. The shouting things where they pan a lot of stars or fire across the background makes an action shot without any animation at all. Expressions are changed in the blink of an eye and set into the next talking position. Then there's the few cases where there's a fully animated action-scene with lots of things going on. Most of the time, this is the result of all the money they saved doing the other cutbacks, but some take it further. You know shows like Digimon or Sailor moon or the general hero shows? They always have a grotesquely long transfomation or power-up sequence that they use over and over in every episode, often several times. Massive moneysaver that takes a good chunk of the show.

A lot of the traits were then adopted into various atforms and people have started copying it. Heh, I've actually met the artist from Witch. (we got a signed copy of a comic as part of a "thank you for the help" gift. >_> I suppose people imitate anime because it's popular now. People find anime attractive and things that look anime sells magazines. The Disney style was the big thing before that. In 3D, everyone wants to make Pixar style things, which in turn is a twist on the disney style that is a twist on an older style. It's always a bit limiting putting art into boxes like that. I've seen many clever ways to abstract the human form, but people have a tendancy to label things, so everything becomes anime or not anime. If you draw semi-relistic people, you're labled as making something like superheroes or whatever commes closer. Anime has become such a wide category that you can fit anything in there if you want to. Small people? Chibi of course. Tall? Lanky? Long face, small face, big eyes, small eyes, knife nose, no nose, normal nose. All anime for some reason. Anime, in trun, is just another version of the Disney style.

I didn't find any of the movies breathtaking either, but rather better or somehow different than your usual cartoons (and certainly anime)

Traditional Japan is pretty interesting. There isn't much left of it though. Most of the old gets torn down to put up new buildings, so Nara is one of the few really big sites you can visit. That and the old chastles and some shrines. I always love to test food in other countries. Some pretty good soups and fried things in Japan, but you probably won't get much meat. Luchpacks can for example consist of rice and different root, veggie and bean variations along with seaweed. The usual chicken nuggets usually have fish or squid in them. There's a lot of donut stands, but I have yet to find tregular cheese sandwitches. The closest I got was bread with strawberrybeanbutter on it. It's kind of fun though, I'll admit. And yes, there's vending-machines everywhere. Tea, energydrinks or coffee. I always went for the coffee, but I probably shouldn't have. It's not a good idea running around drinking only coffee for several days >_>

On a sidenote, thanks for the music. I'm still listening to the stuff :9

Ah dang, I was totally going to merge my replies so we wouldn't still have TWO threads, but then I had to leave for Chinese classes after my first reply. XDDD OH WELLS!1

There's this blog (I think there are several, actually) by a nice non-tabloid newspaper here, of a German journalist living in China. She writes about all kinds of issues, which of course never reach the public officially. I think reading Chinese blogs is a good way to get a general overview of what's actually going on, but ACK, the time DDDD: I would like each day to have 50 hours, so I'm able to read everything I want to. (not that I should even be ONLINE right now anyway, with all the Law stuff I have to learn D8{ ALL YOU NEED IS LAW)

Oh well, that's fine, too! The film festivals here are run by volunteers as well (I helped 2 years ago, I but had too many exams last year at that time) I like festivals of almost any sort (well okay, only stuff I'm interested in XD), they're exciting. 8D Especially those Rock Festivals where you stay in tents and can't shower for days. Heeeeedirt! XD

Haha yeah, those stupid "party photographers" who take pictures of people and put them up on genericcityname-nightlife.com or something. D8 Don't get me started on those "parties". XDDD I really do NOT get what's supposed to be so extraordinarily fun about them. What's so "cool" about discos?? I like dancing, but I sure as heck won't dance 4-5 hours to music I mostly don't even like. If you go with friends, they'll maybe dance a little as well and then get a beer and stand around and talk. BOOORING. If I want to have a good time with friends, going out for lunch or meeting privately for DVD watching or going to an amusement park or playing games or whatever IS SO MUCH MORE FUN than trying to have a pitiful conversation (more screaming because of the extra loud RnB or some crap) fueled by booze. Hah! Even worse, this makes me look like I'm not social or anything. o_O I'm perfectly fine with socializing, YOUR PARTIES JUST SUCK. SO THERE. XDDD [/rant]

Yeah, I figued it was done to save time/money, but yaaargh, I'd rather have a beautifully drawn still image for several minutes with a narration! XDDD Then again, that's not really the point of television. 8D;
Right, most styles have influenced each other so much through time that it's probably really hard to tell anymore. Someone told me recently that the Astroboy(?) manga artist was actually a huge fan of Disney and tried to integrate their style into his. o_@ whatevs. Lolz.
Speaking of animation, I acquired *cough* Persepolis recently. I heard it's great! It might be nominated for an Academy Award as well, can't remember. XD

Yeah, it's horrifying what Japan and China have done to a lot of their cultural tradition x_X; Building skyscrapers over the ruins of some of the oldest cultures is like erasing the world's ...cache. 8D;

Yes omg, THE COFFEE!11 XDDDDDDDDDDDD That's exactly what I had in mind, though I was going to be shady about it. XDDD A friend showed me pictures of those vending machines, mentioning the many coffee types in a sidenote, and now I'm mentally stalking Japan's vending machines. 8D; I need to try all the coffee somewhen.
