Description
MermaidThe sun was shining down onto her as she began to wake up. Her rock she had been resting on was warm, the water around her lower half, cool and refreshing in the summer sun.
She yawned, stretching her back as she squinted from the harsh rays of the sun. The pool where she rested was tranquil. As most of the time it was. Every so often there would be people visiting the pool. Most of the time it would be a blonde elfling. Who wore green and purple and had long hair and carried with her a bow. The others tended to be the tall brunette man and the ginger haired dwarf.
As she thought about this, lifting her tail from the water and watching as it slowly turned from the aquamarine colour it held while underneath, to the almost fur like red, white and black, almost like a foxes tail (This would happen whenever she took her tail from the water), she heard the voice of the brunette man walking over, humming a song to himself.
She ducked next to the rock, her midsection settling under the water again as she hunched slightly, looking up and out from underneath to see the brunette man kneeling next to the pool, washing off his sword in the blue waters.
She had always been fascinated by the others. The people who didn't have tails. The only one who spoke to her was a man named Ridgedog. And that was only because he was apparently a demi-god of some sort. She had never built up enough courage to talk to the others. She knew that they had sometimes seen her as she swam away, not knowing what she was, probably assuming she was a fish.
He had a different tail to herself... It swished from side to side happily as he continued to hum along to himself, still wiping his blade. She wanted to swim over, to talk to him... But she couldn't build up the courage to do so...
And so, once again, he began to walk away. She sighed and let herself relax, sinking lower into the water and then swimming slowly over to where he had been. She noticed he had dropped something out of his pocket. She picked it up. A small black stone, smooth and flat not lay in her fingers.
"Oh... Stone..." She heard him say, quickly turning and splashing down into the pool, diving deeper and propelling down into the corral bellow, hiding under the water.
She had made eye contact with him. He had seen her tail. He had seen her... What she was. What if he was to tell the others? Would they hunt her? Would they come after her...?
The thought scared her. And so she swam down, only rising back up when she came to a little river she often visited. She breathed a sigh and leant against the wall of the river. Watching as little ducklings followed their mamma down the gentle waters, fish swam around below her and little frogs jumped across the Lilly pads, which dipped slightly from the weight.
Meanwhile, Xephos simply sat there. Watching as the last little glimmers of her tail shone and then disappeared. Was that an actual mermaid? Looked like one... The tail, it had to be. He smiled to himself as he picked up the flat stone, placing it back into his pocket.
A real life mermaid...
Wow...
Centaur
Xephos walked along the path through the trees, the dwarf laying on his back as his black hooves clicked on the floor. He smiled to himself, the warm, humming summer afternoon buzzing calmly around him. He loved days like this. Just being able to calmly walk around, his little dwarven friend complaining after just a short while that he was 'too tired to walk any further.'
But Xephos didn't care. He continued walking, his long black tail flicking from side to side as he stretched, his fringe falling over his face. He brushed it to one side, and carried on down the path.
After a while of walking, he began to hear the dwarf softly snoring on his back. He smirked and walked towards a small clearing, settling down steadily in the short grass as to not wake his friend. He looked back at him and smiled, before taking off his sword and hilt, and placing it on the floor. He picked the dwarf up, resting him in the grass beside him so that he could sit more comfortably.
He sighed happily, looking up to the sky.
Not long after that the sun began to set. He sighed and picked the dwarf up, slowly placing him on his back as he began to walk, a little faster than before, through the trees and back onto the path.
He know there were hunters on these lands. And they weren't able to see as well at night.
Being careful of the lining of the trees as he picked up the pace back towards the Jaffa factory, he could see little fireflies emerging from the trees and flying around calmly.
He took a moment to gaze at a small cluster, smiling in wonder. But, then, a long arrow shot, straight past his face. Dispersing the fireflies as he reluctantly kicked his front legs up into the air, resisting the urge to Winnie in shock. Luckily he had managed to hold onto the dwarf so that he didn't fall off, and quickly he was dashing down the path, his hoofs making loud clacks on the floor as he went. He continued going faster and faster until, he felt a sharp, almost tugging, pain in his back leg. He felt himself stumbling, tripping and tumbling into a heap on the floor.
It wasn't long before he had picked himself up again, shook himself quickly and continued galloping away.
Finally, they reached the Jaffa factory, he let himself drop down onto the lovely soft grass, as the dwarf was only just stirring from his slumber.
"Friend?" Honeydew asked.
Xephos looked to him, panting slightly and whimpering like a little puppy as he simply nudged the arrow.
"Xeph? What happened?!" Honeydew asked, noticing the arrow and the blood.
All the centaur did was whimper and tap at the arrow. Reverting to his fragile animal side. Not knowing what to do with the wound he now held.
The dwarf jumped off his back, kneeling down at his leg.
"Hold still, Xeph... Xeph hold still ok?" He said, pulling out a piece of cloth from his pocket. He tied it around the top of the wound, and slowly put his hand around it. "This may hurt... Quite a bit..." He admitted, and suddenly yanked at it.
Xephos couldn't resist the urge to let out a horse like scream and batted at the dwarves hand. After another second the dwarf had pulled the arrow out. "Right... Stay here a minute ok?" He said, and stood, rushing over to the Jaffa cafe.
Xephos, not wanting to be left alone, tried to stand up, limping and inevitable tripping on his wounded hoof. Honeydew turned back to him. "Xeph! Stay! You'll only injure yourself more!" He said, and ran inside. A few seconds late the returned with Lalna's medical supplies, and opened the box. He pulled out a bandage, disinfectant, and a plaster, and sprayed disinfectant onto the wound.
Xephos whined in pain again but took it better this time. The dwarf continued by wrapping the bandage around his friends leg and then tying it up, before putting the bandage over to stop it coming undone.
"There... All better..." He said. "Oh Xeph... I'm sorry I fell asleep... I should have known about the hunters..."
The centaur looked at him and tried to stand up.
"Ok... Let me help you... I think you need to rest for a few days..." The dwarf said, helping his limping friend over to the Jaffa cafe and onto the large bed his equestrian friend slept on. "Strict doctor orders! No getting out of bed for the next few days! Now get some rest. I'll see you tomorrow." He smiled.
Xephos nodded and curled up on the bed, closing his eyes. Honeydew frowned as he looked out the window, glaring towards the forest. He had told the hunters a thousand times, not to shoot at poor Xephos. One day his friend might not be so lucky. This was the worst injury yet. He sighed and closed the blinds before crawling into bed himself, and switching off the light.
