Xephos hopped along through the forest after his mother. A nearby squirrel who was enjoying a nut looked down to see them.
"Walkin' already?" he asked happily "Well, what do you know?" he asked the chipmunk that sat next to him.
Xephos lifted his legs up high as he walked, stomping them down as he moved forwards. He smirked to himself, but then began to stumble and almost fell before turning and looking around. He smiled behind him and turned around, following a whistle he had heard from his mother.
"Good morning." A quall said as she walked up to the mother, a trail of small quails behind her.
"Good morning Mrs Quall." she answered
"Where's the young prince this morning?"
She noticed Xephos walking up behind his mother, who continued walking, and ran in front of him. He stopped and looked down at them.
"Good morning, Xephos."
The little quails looked up to him "Good morning young prince." they all chorused together, before scurrying off after their mother. One ran back "Goodbye!" he called before running off again. Xephos looked around and continued walking.

"Good morning young prince." came a female voice from behind him. Xephos turned to see a possum hanging from a tree branch, three smaller possums next to her. He looked up in amazement, and turned his head around so that it was almost upside down, like the possums. The female possum looked to the rest, who looked to her "Good morning young prince!" they repeated.
Xephos smiled and turned away before continuing to walk through the forest.
The floor bulged up in a line that sped toward him. Xephos raised his ears and walked closer, being curious of what it was.
A small mole stook its head out of the ground, causing Xephos to jump back.
"Good mornin'" it said, and covered his eyes. "Hmmm, nice sunny day." he stated before jumping back in the ground and digging away.
Xephos leant down and looked through the hole, how strange. He smiled and ran forward, tripping and slipping over long grass as he did so. He landed on his stomach and looked around bewildered as to what had just happened.
His mother walked up to him and the rabbit family crowded round as well.
"What's the matter?" one rabbit asked.
"What happened?" the others asked.
"Did the young prince fall down?" Honeydew asked, he was the closest to him.
"Is he hurt?" another called.
"No." his mother chuckled "He's alright."
Honeydew walked up to her, being watched by Xephos as he did so. "He doesn't walk very good, does he?" he twitched his little bunny nose.
"Honeydew." his mother called. He stood up straight and put on an innocent face.
"Yes mama?" he turned to his mother, twitching his nose.
"What did your father tell you this morning?" the mother rabbit folded her arms.
Honeydew spun his big foot around and looked in an apologetic way. "If you cant say something nice..." he breathed in and thought about what his dad had told him. "Don't... say nothin' at all!" he concluded, smiling.

"Come on Xephos, get up." the small deer's mother said, causing the rabbits to look back to him. "Try again." The deer looked to his mother as if to say 'I can't', but the baby rabbits all crowded around him "Come on, get up! Get up! Come on!" they all called.
He wiggled his legs around and managed to stand on his feet, flicking his small tail upwards as he did so. He began to walk forwards and into the forest, surrounded by the little rabbits.
He began to jump and bounce as he walked, making the rabbits giggle. And pretty soon they were all running together.
The rabbit family jumped down a small ditch and Xephos stopped. He peered down at them and waggled his tail. They all jumped around at the bottom and Xephos made his way to the edge, bringing his small hooves into the same place, he slid down the ditch and landed in front of them, shaking his head before smiling as the others laughed.
Honeydew ran forwards and into a hollow log, he picked up his long rabbit foot and began thumping it against the inside, making a loud thumping sound.
"I'm thumping!" he told Xephos. "That's why some people call me the thumper!" His voice echoed around him. "Honeydew!" he shouted, an echo returning to him. The others smiled and he ran inside, followed by the others. They continued running and laughing, but Xephos stopped as he came to a large log that the others had jumped over. He looked down at it, studying it left and right.
"Come on!" Honeydew shouted, he jumped onto the log and looked Xephos in his big blue eyes. "You can do it!"
Xephos twitched his ears at the little rabbit that stood in front of him. "Hop over it!" the rabbit encouraged. "Like this!" he jumped from the log and landed next to the others, who all began jumping around, over and over the log.

They all jumped back to the side they were on before and watched as Xephos smiled, took a few steps back and steadied himself. They jumped up onto the log to get a better view. He ran towards them and jumped, but fount himself hanging over the log. The others laughed and Honeydew ran up to him and looked into his eyes again.
"You're just not far enough." he said.
The deer looked back behind himself and pushed his back leg over the log.
"That's it!" Honeydew said. "Now the other one!"
Xephos smiled and brought his other leg over the log, he found himself with his legs crossed over each other and stumbled to one side. He began to run like it, but toppled and landed once again on his stomach. He blinked a few times before his tail started wiggling. He looked behind to see Honeydew crawling from under him. "Gee whizz! What happened that time?" the rabbit asked, still half under the deer, who blinked at him. Honeydew made his way out and turned to Xephos.

Birds were chirping and eating berries, they made their way over to the little blue birds. Xephos turned and looked to Honeydew.
"Those are birds." the rabbit stated.
Xephos smiled and opened his mouth. "Bir." he said. "Bir!" he shouted.
"Look! He's starting to talk!" Honeydew told the others excitedly.
Xephos grinned again, "Bir!" he shouted.
"He's trying to say bird!" one of Honeydew's sisters called.
Honeydew jumped up a large mushroom in front of him and looked into Xephos' face. "Say, bird!" He twitched his nose.
"Bir!" the deer copied, and began twitching his nose.
"Bird!" he twitched his nose again.
"Bir!"
Honeydew shook his head. "Uh-uh. Bird-ah!" he stated, his ears swaying around.
The birds all flew around Xephos. "Come on, say bird! Say bird!" Everyone joined in on convincing Xephos to speak.
"BIRD!" he shouted, causing the others to fly back and laugh. Xephos smiled,  but the others were running back to their mother.
"He talked! He talked mama!" they all shouted. "The young prince said bird!"

Xephos watched from where he was. "Bird!" he shouted to himself. "Bird! Bird! Bird! Bird! Bir-" he stopped as a yellow butterfly floated in front of him. It floated past and he followed, curious as to where it was going. He ran toward it and skidded past, before turning and following again. It made him spin in circles, until finally he looked around and it wasn't there. It landed on his tail and he turned his head to see it. "BIRD!" he shouted at it.
"No that's not a bird!" Honeydew stated from behind him. "That's a butterfly."
Xephos looked to him. "Butterfly?" Honeydew nodded. "Butter-!" he turned to see that the butterfly was gone. He looked around for it and smiled as he spotted something behind him. He ran up to it. "Butterfly!" he shouted, Honeydew hopped next to him.
"No!" He chuckled "That's a flower!"
Xephos looked to him and tilted his head slightly. "Flower?"
"Ah-huh, it's purty!" the little rabbit turned to the flowers that were next to him and sniffed them.
"Purty..." Xephos mimicked and took a sniff at the flowers. He stopped and raised his head at the same time as another animal that had its nose to his. "FLOWER!" he shouted.
"Me?" the new creature asked. Honeydew began laughing and Xephos turned to him.
"HAHAHAHA! No! No! No! No!" the rabbit said, still laughing. He stood up "That's not a flower!" he called stifling even more laughter. "He's a little-"
"Well that's alright!" the new creature said. "He can call me a flower if he wants to!" the little creature giggled. "I don't mind!" they looked up to Xephos.
"Purty! Purty flower!" the deer shouted at the creature, who rolled onto their back.
"Oh! Hehehehe, gosh!" they said happily, their teal eyes dancing.

------------

Xephos followed Honeydew, it was starting to get dark now and a shot of thunder rung through the forest. They both looked up to the sky and to each other.
"I think I better go home now..." Honeydew stated, and jumped away. Xephos continued walking warily, but ran when another clap of thunder rung.
He joined his mother in their home and copied her as she lay down. She bowed her head and closed her eyes, he yawned and did the same. But a noise caused him to open his eyes once more. He looked up. A spot of rain dropped onto a leaf and he looked to it.
Xephos stuck his nose out and another spot landed on it. He shook his head and looked back to the leaf. More raindrops rug around him, sounding like music. The dripped down the leaves in large balls of water. A little stream cascaded from the rocks and ran in front of him, he looked down in admiration. He saw Mrs Quall and her children run across the little stream and creatures all around hid in their nests to avoid the downpour.
Xephos watched, but fount his eyelids heavy and closed them while dropping his head to the floor. His mother watched and looked up to the cloudy sky.
Thunder rung and Xephos shot up, turning and looking around, another one rung and he attempted to hide himself under his mother. He continued to burry himself against her as more and more rung through the forest, causing all the animals to jump with worry as rain continued to pour, then all of a sudden, a bright orange peeked through the clouds and the sky turned sunny once more.
Xephos' mother looked down to see him asleep next to her. She kissed him on the head before nuzzling up against him.
