this reminds me of the musical The Fantasticks...the heroine sees her lover been burned on the stake and eaten by things and tortured but another character keeps putting a mask back on her face so she stays "happy" and is distracted, but finally she takes off the mask and i think this picture describes her emotions...providing that the thing she is holding is a mask lol
