Although he makes a living as a cheap travelling magician, the likes of whose shows contain magic cards and rabbits in hats, Carnelian is actually a full-fledged magic user. He traded his soul long ago for eternal life and youth, and now steals the souls of others to keep his strength up and fill the void. To this end, he has made a name for himself in the underground as a granter of wishes, for he draws in clientele this way. However, about one out of every six whose wishes he grants also have a curse placed on them, causing them to slowly waste away and fall into deaths arms. And when that happens, he is always there to catch their souls before they have a chance to pass on.
