Description
Its chief food is haws, the fruit of the hawthorn tree, but adults can overwinter on a diet of leaves. They may grow up to 17 mm long, and are camouflaged in shades of green and brown. Like many so-called "stink bugs", they may release unpleasant odours when disturbed The hawthorn shield bug is found across Europe, from Portugal to Russia, and is common in the southern part of Great BritainHawthorn ShieldbugTaken in Norfolk, England. My son really thought this was a "COOL" shot. He's six and wants to be an entomologist when he grows up so I've done a feature about bugs just for him and had to include this photo that he enjoyed so much.

Shield bugs are very common where I live. I believe they do fly, and it's not easy to get them off of your hands if you do pick one up.

Must admit I`ve never tried to pick them up, must be nice to see them in abundance
