Podil is a historic neighborhood in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. It is one of the oldest neighborhoods of Kiev, and the birthplace of the city's trade, commerce and industry. After the Mongol invasion of Rus' and destruction of Kiev, it served as a city center until the 19th century. Here was located the city administration (magistrate), main university and later here was established the city's port and shipyard.
