Wow. I love this piece, first and foremost because it is different. You've created a magical scene that tells a story and makes the reader want to know more.
Your lighting is really quite nice, and it is what really ties the pieces together. I like how the light falls at the top of the image and then around the lantern. The blue and gold tones are really cool and emanate from the light sources in the piece, as appropriate.
One thing you might want to consider is that there does not APPEAR to be a gradient of where the colored light transitions into shadow. It looks like it just goes orange, then gray, rather than the orange light gradually fading into shadow. You can achieve this effect with the gradient tool... or... if you are careful you can get a similar effect with a large, soft brush (play with the opacity settings).
You've done a reasonable job composing your image and making most of the pieces fit. There are two composition-related things to think about here: (1) the owl is almost as big as the wizard, and (2) the tree in the foreground does not blend with the background. It needs to be smaller and less intrusive.
Overall, this is a cool piece from someone who clearly has a lot of talent. I am so glad I stumbled across it today. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="

Thanks for letting me use your images.
And sorry about the extra messages - I wasn't rushing you, it's just that my comment did not appear the first time, so it made me think that the message just disappeared.
