The sky is tinted a pinkish gray by the haze of lights beneath the clouds. The clouds, too, are stained with it- taking on a surreal appearance as they flow and drift across the landscape. At the top of the sky, above them, only one kind of structure prevails- monolithic black pillars, featureless and rectangular in their construction. A smooth, matte keyboard sort of black. Atop one of them sits an ortabastris, with fur born of the same black. They are quiet and still, motionless as they gaze into the softly swirling masses of thick pink water vapor below them. Their paws are hung a bit over the edge of the pillar's flat summit, hundreds of meters above the ground- and yet their mane does not rustle nor prickle. Only their tail moves, slowly twisting and weaving through a particularly high cloud. It is here that they are at home. Not here, upon the pillar, or above the clouds- but here, beyond the point at which others decide that exploration is no longer worth the risk.

heyo hello wowee
so uh I started working on this seeeveral months ago? doing the lineart and background during livestreams. ..then I benched it in the thinking that would work on it specifically during livestreams. unfortunately, I never did that, so ended up just going and adding a little bit of polish and a whole lot of shading without an audience. hooray! I'm finally done lmfao ;D;

for those who are curious about this sort of thing, or who'd just like to experiment with some great new music to listen to- a big inspiration/mood setter for this illustration was the album Carbon  by HEXSYSTEM  (also known as u m a m i  ); especially the second track, Destination, which is quite melancholic in tone.

the character in this illustration is actually my spacebugkitty(now finally rebranded as Pardusimia ortabastris) sona,,, who does not have a name lmao. also, they're technically not a real spacebugkitty, and are instead an abomination from the Black Mountain 'hume fallout' zone. Their shtick is that they can maintain constant humes in any environment, as well as resist outside forces which try to alter them(aka they remain unchanged in areas of abnormal reality density as well as in the face of angry reality benders)
