Description Yet again, only a vague idea of where something like this goes in DA's categories.

What you see before you is a Buzz Bee Toys Double Shot Air Blaster. A breach loading Nerf style gun with shells that you load the darts into. With my old room mate's help I took the liberty of sawing off the barrel. Same as on my other guns, I sanded down logos, sprayed the gun with a base coat (textured black) and then painted the gun up the way I thought looked best. Dry brushing on the 'metallic' parts of the gun came out good I think, on the other hand it was my first ever attempt to paint a wood grain and I am positive I could improve there.

Before anyone may ask, I didn't try to take the rear compartment off because it looks like part of the inner workings of the gun extends down there and that makes it too much of a hassle for me to deal with.

Do you find that the acrylic paints stand up to normal wear and tear? I've only used enamel paint, but I see others using acrylic and wondered about that. Any benefits over the other stuff? Thanks

I seem to have good luck with them, but I always use a matte sealant to help protect the paint as a last step. The only gun that's truly been subjected to wear is my Recon, I've run around using it for a couple of weekends (dropping it after wiping out on some rocky hills a couple of times), it exceeded my expectations for sure.

Better or worse? Well I'd say it's mostly personal preference. I've used enamels a few times in the past, but I found acrylics easier to work with (they seemed more forgiving with mistakes and easier on my brushes). Your stuff looks great as it is, so obviously enamels can be excellent as well.

Thank you, I will say the cancer causing fumes are a detraction from the paints I use, but a nice sweaty vent mask is always fun to wear for hours at a time See why I was wondering about acrylics? hehe. Thanks for the input and good luck with your future projects!

Hey, Team Fortress II's Scout called; he said he wanted his Force-a-Nature shotgun back.

...and that's a complement from me, to be clear. :<

How did you get the wood grain effect?

Indefiknight In reply to Hatzego [2011-06-24 00:43:35 +0000 UTC]

Well what I tried to do was take a lighter color I had, a sort of tan, and putting a little on a brush, feathered it on in random places (this is after having painted it brown already). Then I thinned my brown paint a little, trying to make a wash that I could apply on top of those areas. I messed around with applying a few layers of that until I was more or less satisfied.

One thing I would say that helped it look better, I have always used textured spray paints as my base coat on these guns. I think this makes it seem more realistic than the regular matte paints but that's my opinion.

Ok, thanks. I recently got one of these to repaint for a sci-fi/westerny prop (Firefly fan-vid!!!) and saw your's and I thought that was pretty much perfect.

dude to add a final touch .
add a cherry red coat to the shells(or what ever other color you want ), then cut a brass washer to size let it over hang by like 0.5mm or something stupidly small but noticable stick it to the bottom ,AND voila you have a replica(sort of ) double barrel sawn off .

im still workin on mine its now a successful airsoft gun that shoots 3bb's at 275fps -which its WOW for a nerf(ect.) to airsoft conversion ..and i can still keep the shells i painted ,aswell as it being sawn off and resprayed

Never thought of that but it sounds like a great idea. Would complete it nicely. Thanks

Airsoft conversion sounds a bit out of my league, I usually don't poke around with the internals much as it is.

I pulled one of these apart once. The "inner workings" inside the butt of the blaster is just a simple pulley system that the string goes through, that loops back all the way up to the barrel half of the gun. You remove that, and have the string dangle from the grip. You just pull the string back until it stops clicking to cock, or charge, or whatever, and it should still work. I can provide a picture if you like.

Ah yeah, well maybe if I ever paint another one, but I don't think I'm going to work on this particular one any more. Thanks though

Hi, I'm painting my double shot too and I wanna ask if you disassembled any part or just sprayed the whole gun in black?

thanks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Indefiknight In reply to khaiwraith [2008-12-08 16:54:24 +0000 UTC]

I think I may have tried to take it apart and given up for some reason, either way I left it as is and sprayed it black. I actually took some chances in spraying around the mechanisms when the gun was open though, which I think may have damaged something because it doesn't shoot as well as it did beforehand.
