Such a tough scene to watch, cause one's got to eat to survive and to keep one means the loss of another. For one mom's cubs to survive another mother is forced to grieve.
But spare the one child, then the other's children will starve. Such a quandary their life is.

I wouldn't be so sour if the dholes were going after 'proper' prey ie. the weak, old, sick, etc. I'd even be okay with them going after the healthy adults or young adults! Just NOT THE BABIES!!!!!!

The 'don't look back' dialogue just came from it being cliche dialogue to use when running from danger.

Cliche for a pretty good reason. Two very real instincts at war - one is to keep an eye on an approaching danger, the other to get away from that danger. It's hard to ignore one instinct for another, but you turn to look back and your body's momentum is thrown off, destroying your stride.
