"Wash?"
  Her voice always seemed distant to him ever since Epsilon had been put into his mind. She had been standing in his doorway for the past two minutes fiddling with her hair. She never put it behind her ears, she only did that when she was frustrated. Something seemed different though. Maine was still reading "How to take care of your weapons" and listening to "Living on a Prayer." Occasionally his foot would tap to the beat. He didn't seem to notice her at all. He settled back onto his bed before he answered.

"Yeah Connie?"   "I told you not to call me that," she jerked her head towards Maine is if to say Not in front of HIM at least. She walked over slowly, her hand behind her back.

"Sorry....something you wanna talk about?" Seemed like there was always something she wanted to talk about with him. York would tease him about constantly in the rec room. Nothing seemed to get past him and that one scared eye.
She pulled out a card and a small sunflower, her eyes averting him.
"Happy Valentine's Day."

It was very unlike like her to do something like this. Normally she would be curled up on the edge of his bed like she was trying to find a way to try to tear his bed part. Sometimes she would just plain fall off the bed because she would fight with his sheets when she got angry and he would always have to pick her up and put her back on the bed. But this time seemed different.

It took a him a second to read the small card and put the flower on his beside table.
"That's....thanks CT. Really nice of you." She gave him a small smile. He suddenly felt bad, knowing he hadn't gotten anything for her at all. No one ever gave him anything for the holidays. He suddenly felt something warm and fluffy behind his back mewing at him.
"DC! Oh geezz....," he picked up the small tabby cat and placed it in his lap. "Sorry girl. Did I forget to feed you again?"  The cat mewed almost as if saying yes. She smiled a little at the cat. Neither of them had noticed Maine had left the room. She carefully placed her hand on top of the cat's head, wincing as if it would strike her.
"She's harmless, aren't you DC?"
DC purred under his touch, nuzzling CT's at the same time. She gave a small chuckle.
"Want me to help you feed her?"
It was the first time he had ever heard her say that. Normally she would just shout "Oy you" to DC but...he pushed the thought aside. As long as she was happy, he would be too.
He nodded. "Only if you want to though."
"Just point me in the right direction and I'll get it." Her tone went back to being bored and flat. Normal CT.
He pointed to the kitchen. "Should be on the top shelf. DC in black marker."
She nodded and got up, her hips stiff as if she didn't really enjoying having them move at all. He still felt bad sitting there with DC in his lap. He looked behind him to see if DC had dragged another piece of someone's clothing back to him (it was always something of Maine's) but instead there was a note. He could tell it was Maine's handwriting. Not neat, but legible.
Tell her. And do it now.

     Always to the point, aren't you Maine. He gave a sigh. She had to know at some point. He had been avoiding her too much. Writing to Eleven wasn't helping him anymore. It was just stuck emotion and he wasn't' receiving any support from the other end of those letters. She was right. She had always been right. Why hadn't he seen it before?
He put DC down on the bed and carefully walked up behind her, placing his arms around her chubby little waist. Sure, he knew she would probably hit him later for doing this. But in the end he knew it would be worth it.
"D-david? What are you doing?" She only said his name when they were alone together. Just these small moments that didn't seem to matter until now.

"Giving you your Valentine's Day present." He gently pressed his lips against hers for a second. There was no retaliation on her part. She seemed to be giving in. He pulled away, letting his hand hold hers.

He pulled her into a tight hug and kissed her forehead.

"Happy Valentine's Day, Connie."
