Description
Megaptera novaeangliae, humpback whales. Lunge feeding.
Monterey Bay, California.
I love whales ! If I have the chance, I go on boats to watch them, no matter how cold it is or how rough the sea is. I feel perfectly fine on the ocean (but not in public busss
).
My drean is to see a blue whale one day. I had my hopes on that trip, but instead we saw dozens of humpbacks stuffing themselves . And also sea lions (n the back) and pelicans, grabbing the leftovers
. I love marine life.
These two have jumped out right across the boat. That was so cool ! Probable one of the best parts of our California trip
.

Aaw... that's one of the best pictures of the whole trip. And one of the best moments in my life so far. I really love whales and it was an amazing day out there, see them feeding right next to our boat with all the fish jumping out and the sea lions and birds around. Β

Majestic titans. Its an honor to witness such powerful animals ruling their natural domain unopposed. I once went whale watching myself, and witness humpbacks, specifically a mother and her calf. Β Such beautiful creatures.Β Β

I have seen mothers with calves before, too (Cape Cod). I found it very interesting that whale mothers present their young to the boat. I still do not fully comprehend the reason behind it.
In Cailfornia grey whales even push their offspring to the boat and let people stroke them. They even like that! I wonder where they got that idea despite being hunted down for ages.
I really love them. Every time I have the choice, I would go whale watching. But I make sure the boat company is acting correctly. Don't go on a tour if the boat drives right up to the whales and leaves the motor on. They are supposed to shut the motor off and let the whales come close by themselves.
