Description Etching done in 2007.
The Ouroboros is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail.

The Ouroboros often represents self-reflexivity or cyclicality, especially in the sense of something constantly re-creating itself, the eternal return, and other things perceived as cycles that begin anew as soon as they end

your etchings are amazing. My I ask about your process? Materials? I've been exploring more art forms lately, some printmaking and whatnot..I'd love to try something new

thank you!

well, the etchings require seriously flammable/toxic acid baths & good ventilation. i did these while taking a course at SVA in nyc. but i've found a local artist who is willing to share his printing press & studio so i hope to make more this summer.

basically, you apply a substance (ground) to metal plate, etch your drawing into it, burn the design into the plate by dipping in acid bath, ink the plates, lay paper on inked plate, run through printing press. there are many variations to this process. i enjoyed viscosity inking which gives a layered colored look with one run through the press.

if you are interested i'd suggest locating a local art school where you can take a class & they supply everything in the course fee, because it will be expensive to start and this way you could try it first.
