Description I once did a short science fiction story, in which people aren't "born" until their 16th birthday.
Allow me to explain, thanks to totally impossible crazy science technology stuff, when two people want to have a baby, they simply leave DNA sample from them both at a lab. Then, cells begin to divide and multiply, but rather than the traditional way of growing a body along with a mind, the consciousness begins to form, and the physical being remains unformed.

The "child" learns through digital visual images, and basically grows up as a disembodied mind until it is 16. At this point, the decide what gender they want to be, how tall, how big, and pick-and-choose from the options their parents DNA gives them. The point behind this technology is now nobody has a need to change how they look or who they are later in life; we are exactly what we want to be. All the options are made available, and the decision is final.... which still is a flawed system.

The social structure of this world is also very dependent on stereotypes, matching personality with appearances, and remaining with people you share similarities with. This is just BEGGING for some rebels to come and wreck things up.

This character up top is basically forming himself; since it is a process of deciding what you will look like FOREVER, the character is a bit uncertain, and most of the body is still in a concept phase.

Enjoy~

awesome, i love the drafting and sketch lines again, and cool back story too
also, Ive always wondered, do you use any type of reference when creating these figure drawings, or do you draft them out from memory of the human form? it has always appeared to me that you memorized the proportion and anatomy of the human body so well that you could draw it without reference.

Oh, wow, thank you!
I really don't think I'm all that great at proportion/perspective (I tend to make arms and legs a bit too long).
But I am glad you like how I draw, and I must admit, I'm happy with how I can draw anatomy now.

I had some human figure and anatomy classes where we drew while looking at models, but I didn't really start to improve until a few years later; one of my teacher wanted us to make a sketch book for the class, with at least 100 pages, so I was sketching poses and such every day. One day, it finally clicked in my head; don't just draw the outlines, draw the circles and shapes within the body.

Once I started doing that, it became SO much easier to draw believable muscles in arms and legs without making them too detailed. I sometimes draw a pose right out of my head by remembering how the body works. Sometimes, I use a ref, but If I'm trying to draw something original, I always change the pose and character so I'm not copying anything. Every once in a while, I need to look at how a knee bends, or something like that.
My Animal Anatomy class also really helped me out.

I also started drawing ref sketches by watching shows or movies, pausing every once in a while, and drawing sketches of the pose I saw. I also like to mix it up with body-types, and have finally been able to draw chubby and muscular characters recently. You have probably seen some of them before, but here are some examples of what I mean~
