What program did you use? I would recommend, for the blade, a White capsule-cylindar on the core, and use the same red tube for the outside, only add some edge transperancy, and additive transperancy and luminosity... that way, you get the classic white-core, red glow look!
Or, simply make a white core, with a thick red glow... depending on what your software capabilities are.... the first is easiest tho

You know what? I completely forgot about that, what I did was use a direct spot (3DS MAX 5) and used a the volume light effect, which I find much more usefull and controlable then a glow. I'll add the white right now, thanks for the tip ^_^
