Yeah, mine too! Although I only learned about it long after it was released. But it still impressed me!
IMO, one of the best movies on the topic of consciousness, soul and artificial intelligence. It left me thinking on those subjects really - is the future depicted there really possible? Part of me wishes it were

I think a lot of the technical aspects of the GitS future are possible.
I even think they might well happen. Cyborg development and advanced weaponry are already well underway. I think a network into which the cyborgs can be hooked isn't too far fetched either (we already have the internet after all). Whether we'll end up using cyborgs for things like law enforcement? Sure, why not? As long as we retain control over their AI
Things just start to get really iffy if you throw the idea of a soul into a cyborg. I think that's a big part of what the film is exploring.
Another thought that occured to me: If consciousness is essentially what some think of as a soul, then our body is the shell that houses that soul. Hence, we have the name: Ghost in the shell. Which would mean, Humans and cyborgs are exactly alike, except that our bodies are organic instead of mechanical.
Look at what you've done to me Edarneor. I'm supposed to be writing essays right now.

Well, technically speaking, our brain already uses electric impulses to think (or that's what scientists say), so we are part-cyborgs as it is
The problem is the interface. We can't interpret those signals as of now. Nor make computers to use them like brain does.
Obviously, since they can ghost-hack into your memory in the movie, they know some more about it. That's a matter of time, I think. And research.
And yes, the film implies the consciousness can exist with no body or even change bodies, like in the ending scene.
I wonder what's it like being an entity with no body living in the net? What do you see and feel? Does it qualify as immortality?
He-he, yeah, I should be working now, too...

This is so beautiful and melancholy. I hope someone will recover her. She is too lovely to waste.
