I don't think it's so much "removing" more not showing/covering with fur. The same applies to cartoon characters on TV: Donald Duck walks around with no trousers because he's covered by feathers, Bugs Bunny can be naked because he's got nothing "on show", the same principle applies.
I see what you did there with "skirting the line"/"but I removed it" though, good pun.
