As a prisoner of the Cerot' Mok, Theylan could have escaped at any time. His skills as a Zanthyan soldier would have been more than a match for his highly trained assassin captures. His stay was a self imposed penence for his previous life. As a soldier, Theylan delt death well and frequently. When Theylan was finally captured, as a prisoner he received the one thing he never had as a soldier; time to reflect. Theylan decided that he should pay for what he had done and remained where he was. He became a tool that the Cerat ' Mok used to train their own; taking any and all punishment that was doled out as part of his penence. If any good came of his stint, it was meeting a young Ceratti by the name of Felana Myrllst. He would change her life and in turn, have his life changed by her.
