Anyone still having compatibility issues, simply change the file extension to .pat instead of .psd

unzip the file, go to the following: layer>layer style> pattern overlay. Once inside of there where it shows the pattern image click the arrow that points down. There should be a button that has an arrow that points to the right. click that then load pattern. Choose the file and you should see the patterns in that dialog box. Hope that works for you.
